Automatic Vs Manual
I'm fine wtih Autos but please let's recognize there is a distinction and give due that when you want to race you better have the M6.
Best of luck,

Oh....and then theres those pesky F1 cars that got their automatic trannys banned....now they can use only SEMI - automatics.
Oh....and puhleeezzz...when was the last time you saw a top fueler use a clutch during a "run"?
er...make that "Funny Cars" also...
opps....forgot "Pro-Stock"...........
huh oh....forgot NASCAR not using clutches when and if they shift after leaving the pits.....
opps #2....Why is it all you "stickers" are always asking when the six speed AUTOMATIC is coming out? You guys would kill for paddle shifters....come on...admit it!

OK OK - ino ino what I'm basically describing are standard trannys with VERY strong gears and sychro rings(dogs)...but nevertheless the F1 cars were definately full auto with hydralic actuation.
I can hit the "limiter" in all gears in my auto; well not in 4th YET!
All your precious six speeds are is four speeds with dual over drives.

BUT...sigh.....I really do miss stirring a box....

a 3.45 geard c4 manual ='s a 2.59 geard auto and the auto with 3.07s is like having a 6sp with 3.73 or so.
and with c6's the 3.15 geard autos are like a manual would be with 3.73 ...say someone with a auto with 3.15s wanted to upgrade on gears they would probably go to 3.73 for a track car and a manual car would need to go to 4.10 to be a good track car, see what I mean?
look at other cars the manual will always be geard lower
if you don't wanna believe that just race a c6 that has been upgraded to 3.42 gears......and you would get it handed to ya
actually one with 3.15's should leave ya behind from light to light on the street or track. His mph might not be as high but he will be QUICKER and thats what matters

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

Here is the deal. In absolute numbers, the manual is quicker and faster. GM's own data backs this up. And I think it's pretty safe to say that the Corvette test driver does everything possible to maximize both cars times. In fact, there was an article in Corvette Quarterly a couple of years ago about him. Apparently he's a real animal and runs the dog out of them until he's sure he's gotten all there is out of them.
Also, as to the automatic coming out of the hole faster, I have had my C6 six speed to the track once. I turned two 1.95 60' times. I have not seen an automatic any quicker than this (and as someone said, how hard could that be - even your grandmother can get the most out of an automatic
)

Read my post above about the gearing differences because thats not why. However, I agree with you somewhat, from a roll at most speeds the 6sp should do a little better, from a dead stop the 6sp is toast.
HOWEVER! the autos have their perfect spots that when you stomp at a roll it will STILL take the 6sp.
