You need to read my post a few above yours.

(BTW, I freely admit that all else being equal, an automatic does have the potential for consistently better 60' times, and when you get the 3.15 gears, I may be relegated to second place in the 60' race!)

Guys- it depends on the driver. Yes the auto will launch "perfectly" all the time but you get someone who knows what they're doing with the manual and forget it. Oh, yeah and BTW- I would chose a 6 speed even if the auto car was 1/2 a second faster! MUCH more fun - IMO

My wife has a C5 vert A/4 .... not as much fun by a long shot....

In spite of having a C6 precision silver/ebony, Z51, coupe with auto.
Its a perfectly clear blue 71 degree 1:06pm here in the hills of N. CA.
The transparent top is in its leather pouch tucked away in the back.
I think I will have some "fun" even if I must drive this automatic. Any bets against it.
No matter what you drive enjoy it. Life is too short not to.

Dude - you missed my point - a4 vs 6 spd - not coupe vs vert. I would chose a 6 speed vert or coupe over any a4

I have two teenage boys that drive, and they want nothing to do w/a slushbox. All their teenage friends also either own sticks, or wish they did. But as we age, some of us have gotten fat and lazy, and our reaction times have begun to slow up. When we shift, that old knee or back injury may remind us we're just not as young and nimble as we once were. And some of us have mellowed to the point that we no longer look forward to dumping a clutch when pulling out of the church parking lot, rowing through the gears when your mother-in-law is riding shotgun, or down shifting, even though you're going way to fast, just because it sounds so cool when your driving along side that fence on an otherwise quiet evening. But me...I'm w/ my boys. You can have my stick when you can pry it from my cold dead hand. And for the rest of you...Just admit it. You either drive a stick...or you wish you did!

Some guys just like messing with a shaft as they drive as for me I like to let the top back have my left arm on the door with my left hand on the wheels and my other arm around my baby not playing with a shaft going from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 1st the whoel time. And at the lights me and my girl enjoy blowing manuals away.

Several reasons why I prefer an automatic to a manual tranny, some of which are not the tranny itself but related issues because of the way things are on the C6.
1. CAGS - Don't have to put a 29-cent device on a $52K car just so I can drive the car the way I want to.
2. Reverse - Having to leave the car in Reverse doesn't bother me so much, but I do have to leave the car with someone else 2 or 3 times a year.
3. Memory - Don't like having to push the memory button every time I get in the car.
4. Hills - Don't like having to worry about other drivers pulling up so close to my back bumper at traffic lights on a hill.
5. Defensive driving - Can better avoid the idiots using cell phones and doing 2 or 3 other things at the same time they're laughingly doing something that resembles driving.
6. Ego - Don't have to drive a manual to satisfy my ego that I'm still a teenager or that my lack of stated valid reasons for driving what I choose is the final word.

Oh! IMO - thats why they make auto's and sticks, verts and coupes - to each his own. IMO - having had both A4 and manual - I wouldn't even consider an automatic, but that just my choice.

Will the 6 speed break the tires loose at a roll anywhere in second gear on a dry straight road?

Shifting an auto from N to D after reving the engine will damage the transmission mount.

Mine only breaks the tires lose in 1st gear.

Automatics are for guys who want to STEER, their cars (like a ship).

Manuals are for guys who DRIVE their cars.

Yes, when we're not steering, we have to spend the rest of our time getting out of the way of a FEW manual tranny drivers that think they can drive, just because they have a manual tranny.

It's funny, whenever I run at Road Atlanta, you never hear comments like this from the guys at the track. When we are in pit row talking about how we ran that day, no one cares cares about your tranny.

yep, I'll be taking my cues from teenage boys ...

I guess I'm secure enough not to worry about my preferences or try to justify them through the approval of others

... and the inane auto vs manual discussion continues ...
