I have an automatic C6 z51 -- my nephew just bought a C6 z51 manual. All I can say is that I believe there is a noticeable difference in the power and performance of the 2 cars. For those that have driven both whats your opinion? Thanks
Yes, if you drive the auto and then step into the manual it seems to me the manual is more powerful.
My guess is that you are probably holding gears longer at any one time with a ST and when you dip into the throttle, you're at a higher RPM than an AT would be at and further into the torque curve giving you that seat of the pants feel we all love. Have you tried driving around the AT holding a gear, like 2nd, and seeing if the sensation is similar when you dip into it?
I bet the AT is hellacious when it downshifts under full power, however.

The auto is definitely quicker off the line. It feels like it has more torque when you punch it in street driving too. But top speed goes to the manual because it has lower driveline losses.

A stock auto, usually means more drivetrain powerloss, than a manual. Meaning, altough the engines have the same power rating, the auto car will have less rwhp (and rwtq), when compared to the stick shift.
One man's opinion, I got to drive both the auto and the manual at the "Autos in motion " GM thing. On that short course I found the auto just a quick BUT I also could control the rear end better through the turns with the manual. Traction control was in the same mode on both cars. I ordered a manual, I like the control, but I can certainly see a case for the auto especially if I lived and had to drive in large city traffic ever day. My wife would rather have auto although she will drive stick and quite well They make both, take your pick, its a great car either way.

but a MN6 is only faster with a pro driver...any normal driver with an A4 can be faster than a normal driver with a MN6... can I get a show of hands who agrees with me....
My auto C6 Z51 has 2500 miles and last weekend I took it to the local
dragstrip with a friend who owns a manual C6 Z51,his best run was a 12.7 at 114 mph , mine was a 12.6 at 115 mph.
As far as I am concerned unless you intend to do any Solo 1/Autocross/
track time the auto is more practical , also do you now that the auto
has 15 more lbs/ft torque than the manual ?, and you don,t have to put it in reverse every time you turn it off !

Where did you get this info? The 4L65 transmission in the Vette is rated to only 380 ft-lbs of torque, so its actually the manual that is getting more power to the wheels. In addition autos usuall suffer at least 5% more power loss at the wheels versus manual, meaning in the LS2's case, about a 20hp rwhp advantage for the manual. That being said, an auto sure is nice when you're stuck in traffic...
The Z51 C6s have the M12 transmission, IIRC. It has more agressive gearing. I dont think the Z51 auto has different ratios, so thats where te difference comes from.
Ok I'm ready to have stones thrown at me...and yes I'm a manual bigot. So I will say what is on the more polite folks mind. Autos are boring. How many truly sports cars have manual transmissions? Non clutch transmissons sure. How many put in it drive and leave it cars have won the Indy 500 and LeMans? I believe the number is at 0 and still counting. And yes my 80 year old mother, that I dearly love, can drive and auto.
I'm fine wtih Autos but please let's recognize there is a distinction and give due that when you want to race you better have the M6.

Not that I am questioning your time but 12.6 @ 115
is an outstanding time/trap for any C6, never mind
an auto. I would never have guessed the Z51 auto
would have the same or better trap speed as the Z51
manual.
