I can't say for sure on the Z, but the nav antenna is under the dash, just to the left of the vents on the 05. XM antenna on '05 coupe is the wart on top of the roof and on the trunk lid on vert's. XM antenna was moved inside the mirrors for 06.

Nope, it suggest 3 routes and you pick which one you want to take. No problems here, works like a charm. If you deviate from the route it simply recalculates on the fly....very pleased with it.

Default Nav Routing Issues

I've found that odd routing is generally caused by inaccurate mapping data. If you get an odd routing check the map to see if known roads are included in the area and are complete. Sometimes a small segment is left off, which causes an alternative routing to be selected. If you find a bad map segment report it to: support.na@teleatlas.com . They've been really responsive to any changes I've suggested.

I've found that routing problems are usally a function of faulty map data. If you get a bad routing, check the surrounding map information on the screen to see if its correct. If its not, you can contact teleatlas, the map maker, at the following URL to submit corrections: support.na@teleatlas.com .

Default A Day With The NAV System

This is a chronicle of my experience yesterday using my NAV system. This overview should give you some idea of how I use the system.

I'll use any excuse to take a ride in my C6 so after reading many posts from guys talking about all the problems they have, I decided to really put the system to a test. I decided to take a drive to friend's home which is about 95 miles from my house. I plugged in his address and saved it in the number one preset destination. To make the trip really interesting, I randomly added addresses from a phone book. These addresses were selected by simply picking a city that I knew was along my route and grabbing just any address. I inserted these destinations into buttons 2, 3, and 4. I punched in Preset number two and the trip began.

I should tell you at this point that my NAV system is setup to use the Quickest Route, Allow Major Roads, and Allow Toll Roads. The 'NAV babe' (voice) started giving me directions about one block after leaving my driveway. About 32 miles later, I pulled up in front of my first random address. I was able to drive directly to it like I lived there. It was someone's house, I have no idea who the owner is.

I punched Preset button number 3 and was on my way to the next destination. I got there just like the previous location. No problem.

Before pulling away from the second location, I decided that maybe I would treat my friend to lunch but I wasn't sure I had enough cash. I accessed the system's Point of Interests (POI) screen and asked for a Bank in the area. I refined the search to ask for a branch of my bank and found there was one only 3.4 miles away. I grabbed that route and took off. About 7 minutes later, I pulled up in front of the bank and got cash from the ATM.

Since the first two random destinations worked so well, I decided not to go to the third location. Instead, I punched up button number one for my friend's house. I arrived there about 50 minutes later. Again, it was no problem. Did I mention that I had never been to his house before? When the NAV Babe told me I had arrived at my destination, I was actually two houses away from my friend's house. I can live with that.

He came out and drooled all over my C6 and then we were ready for some lunch. My friend recently relocated back to California from Nevada so he was not familiar with his new area. When he worked in California before, we often ate at a restaurant called Marie Calendar's. I asked the NAV system for restaurants from the POI screen. I found a Marie Calendar's that was 9.7 miles from where we sat. We drove to the restaurant, had lunch, I drove him back to his house, and I headed for home. I ran into some fairly heavy stop and go traffic on the way home. I experimented a bit by adding an address (destination) in the Nav system. You can't program the system when the car is moving at speed BUT you can do it in stop and go traffic. If you don't get all the information into the system before it's time to move, the screen will block out some of the buttons. As soon as you stop, those buttons become available again and you can resume what you were doing. As I pulled into my garage, I thought to myself about the enjoyable time I'd just had.

Maybe I'm lucky by living in the San Francisco bay area - meaning that perhaps the maps for this area have greater detail than some of the maps for other parts of the country. All I can say is that I seem to be doing very well using my NAV system and I'm glad I have it.

After picking up my car last week, I drove from Montana to California. A few times the Nav tried to turn me onto a road into the wilderness or desert that wasn't there and sometimes said to "turn left" when it was more of a curve, but overall it worked out ok. I could easily tell where the errors were and once in a town the road wasn't there so I just kept going and it rerouted me back out to the freeway without a problem.

Is it perfect? No, but I can live with it because it did quite well on a couple of mixed up freeway exchanges too. And it beats the heck out of following a paper map. If you get lost, it will get you back on course.

My Lexus Nav is better but was also upgraded at one point due to bad maps. So when I weigh the benefits versus the detriments, I definitely think it's worth it. Maybe we'll get better data on the new upgrade.

As mentioned above, I think that the settings have an impact on how well it performs also, the "short route" probably giving the most errors.
