C6 Value
I bought an early 2006 C6 Coupe through a sponsor dealer. I paid close to MSRP. I know I lost about 10G the day I drove it home......And I don't care! I have lusted after a Corvette for 41 years, ever since I was a 16 year old kid growing up on the streets of Detroit. And now I have the Corvette I have desired my entire adult life. It is exactly the car I want. I spec it, I followed the order day by day and enjoyed each step forward. I drove it off the assembly line, the first time it moved under its own power I was driving it. After a chamber of commerce luncheon this week virtually everyone came by the car in the parking lot to look it over. "Lucky Dog" and "I envy you" are words I have heard many times this week. My sons high school and college friends have come by the house to see the car. If a vote was held I would win the coolest father award. Until my wife rode in the car with me her attitude was "You've worked hard all your life, you've done well, if this is the silly thing you want, get it". Her first ride I punched it on a straight and did a couple of curves at .8 G. She looked at me and with a gleam in her eye said "Oh yeah, Now I understand your passion!"
PRICELESS!!!!!

DING DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER
Every automobile eventually becomes outdated. Corvettes included.
maybe we have a different meaning of the word "hobbyist" my meaning is that no Vette is outdated because they always seem to be in demand,no matter what generation and a real hobbyist of the Vette would never use that term to describe them. while keeping in mind that cars are some of the worst investments, i think most savvy people know this already. but i agree,to some Vettes are outdated, but if your trying to use a Vette as some sort of investment or return.........

you can do a search but it was posted multiple times here recently how well the new Vette holds its value. Anyways, Im not too concerned. If buying a car that held its value well was my primary concern Id be driving an Accord. This car was an investment in fun.
This car's a keeper.

Perhaps our definitions of the word "hobbyist" do differ. . And I have never purchased any of the Vettes I have owned as some sort of investment or expected return on investment.
But when you get down to it, a Vette is like any other car, in the sense that with the changing of the body style, the body style before it is outdated. The fact that all Vettes are in demand does not matter. Outdated is outdated.

im glad we can agree to disagree
Until G.M stops Whorring out the Corvette and actually starts caring about it's Halo car & it's customers, we will be facing these kind of ridiculous discounts!!!
The Corvette is not a volume car, it is an image car for G.M. If they cut production by 20% or so, then things like steep depritiation & discounts will not be! Plus, it would a little more exclusive.
I know some are going to start firing away....."well if they produce less, then it would make it less affordable" etc. etc.
The Vette shouldn't be a car that most can afford. It should be a car of status and something we strive for as we move up in life!!
2500 mile coupe mn6 @ $54,000.00
500 mile 'vert A4 @ $65,000.00
The 06 just came out, winter is approaching in the northern states, and many of these cars have a lot of miles. Look at the prices next May and I am sure they will look very differant. My 06 VY is on the truck and should arrive in Florida by Tuesday. I bought my first new Vette in 1978 and just traded my 2000 Vert for my 06 which is #9. The first year is always a little higher but overall they hold their value very well.
I am considering you point of view, and I thank you for sharing it. While respecting it, I find it difficult to assimulate into my own creedo, and I suspect others will, too.
So, it is clear that you see the Corvette as mere status symbol, much like the thirty thousand dollar watches in the link below, and not a utilitarian object, for it's PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATIONS, or dollar-value, correct?

While I don't begrudge anyone their God-given right to spend hundreds of thousands (or more) of dollars on useless frippery, I would simply offer that perhaps a Bugatti or Rolls Royce would be a better object for you to concentrate such attentions on. I sincerely doubt that the folks next door in the Hamptons are really going to be properly wowed by your loud, plastic, poorly-fitted, and dare I say gauche Z06, much less a pedestrian and relatively humorous C6...
Me?
Here is my own speed:

(fifty bucks, NIST tracible accuracy, lasts forever, and if I lose it, I get another in a few minutes)
I got the best deal ever on my '05 during the GM Hot Button rebate promotion in May. Local dealer, great trade, and great price on the C6.
I know I will never be able to buy a new Corvette for less.
