even the Maserati Cambiocorsa offers a "vintage' package which is basically chrome trim. "Bling" is in whether one likes it or not !!!
That they call it a "vintage package" proves my point. I think Mercedes uses less chrome now than they used to and I haven't noticed any increase in chrome on Lexus's but they've only been around since about 1990. Personally, I like the chromeless look of the C6. Porsche's, Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, Lotus's, Ford GT's and Viper's are all chromeless too.

Mercedes offers much more chrome then in the past. Chrome door handles instead of black, Chrome protective inserts behind the door handles as an option, Chrome grille strips instead of black, chrome mirror covers, chrome wheels instead of painted. The eighties and the nineties were the period of blacked out cars, during that time Mercedes in Europe had an "Avant Garde" version that had chrome. One only has to look at aftermarket parts for most cars that are much more "bling". Like it or not the trend in design is "vintage" and "retro" and "chrome" equates to that....only to lok at the sales succcess of the Chrysler 300C !!!

I guess I'm too old. I was thinking of Mercedes from before the 80's. Of course aftermarket parts are largely chrome. What else could they sell you if the car doesn't already have much chrome? I don't consider the aftermarket products to be the trend. I consider what the auto manufacturer's manufacture to be the trend. The new Beetle, Mustang and Hemi-Charger (actually a copy of a Challenger) are very retro with zero chrome.
