Why worry? Be happy (with your C6)! Maybe the General will get smart & spin off Bowling Green & the Corvette brand as an independant company (we should live so long!).

and then they will follow Porsche and build a corvette SUV
no way will the government let them go out of business but they should fire all the management and start from scratch. there is just no excuse for making such crap, oh yeh and get rid of the union.
The government will not let any of the American Auto companies go under. If one or two of the major US auto companies went under...can you say massive economic depression.

Your'e right!!! GM has been building junk for years and it has caught up with them. The electronics in GM vehicles are so expensive to fix and always break.
92-96 LT-1/LT-4 Distributor is under the water pump and the pumps leak and wipe out the distributor. New one is $672.00 list price and about 4 hours labor. If you wash the engine down this will also burn it out.

The European and japanese manufacturers are building plants in the US and are hiring a lot of the people that were let go. Economic depression would not happen because GM and Ford went under, however I still dont think it will go under.
We must realize that the world we live in today is far from what it was even 30 years ago. That being said, many major companys have come and gone through the years. What was once considered not possible is today reality. Small case in point is Krispy Kreme, which through 50 years of hard work became a financial powerhouse....today however they are in Chapter 11 and on the verge of closing. GM is not the power they once were either. Companies that continue to lose $185million a year don't tend to hang around very long. I'm not sure how GM will bounce back, market conditions are different today and competition is everywhere. I'd hate to see an American Icon go down like this, but it is possible. As far as Corvette spinning off on their own...not likely. Corvette is a brand name of GM and would never survive long term. The only reason that the Vette is as affordable as it is, is due to the fact the alot of dollars are taken for other GM products to keep it afloat. This is why Lambo's cost as much as they do. They have only a 3 car inventory to keep them afloat.
What would be interesting is how the Government would react if GM were to ever fold. According to an article in "World Finance" magazine,
GM could fold by 2012 if quarterly losses continue as they have the past few years. Lets hope that doesn't happen.

Do you realize how many thousands of jobs are tied into GM and Ford? For every 1 job at a Ford or GM plant there are atleast 10 supplier jobs. If these two companies closed you wound see unemployment close to 12-15% and there is no way the economy could survive that.

I'd like to be a fly on Kirk Kirkorian's office wall. As mentioned above, i don't think he throws money out the window. I'm sure he's not buying all these shares of GM, just to file for bankruptcy.
