Not sure what you are looking for in a color. Most of the Corvette colors can not be accurately judged from pictures. Visited Kerbeck this past Saturday and was blown away at how beautiful each of the colors are in their own way.

None of the colors are boring, as each simply gives the car a different impression. I have the opposite problem, I like each for different reasons:

Black = tough / mysterious / dark

Silver = strong / classic muscle car color / shows off the cars lines / this is a color which you "must" see in person, as it does not reproduce very well in photographs.

Vicory Red = classic Corvette color

Monterey Red = Stunning metallic color, especially in the sun

Le Mans Blue = Has a touch of colbalt, color looks different depending on the lighting / time of day. Nice option for someone looking for a dark color

Dayona Sunset - Has to be seen in direct sunlight, to fully appreciate it.

Velocity Yellow - Great contrasting color, with the dark trim of the C6 and Transparent Roof option (coupe)

Arctic White - another color which contrasts wonderfully with the dark windows, transparent roof (coupe).

I've wondered about the "boring" Corvette colors, too, and my conclusion is that the effect comes not from the colors but from the absence of surface detail on the car. The C1 through C4 Vettes -- the ones you remember fondly -- had a lot of brightwork like chrome trim, edges, bumpers, side pipes and so on. Such details break up a surface and give the eye a place to focus before moving around the car. The C5 and C6 have not had that detail; the body is almost totally paint, which means that the lines of the car itself must do all the work of interesting the eye. The Corvette succeeds (for most of us) because it has very good sculpture lines, but I agree that all that unrelieved painted surface is somewhat less interesting than more variety of detail. I think the same is true of the car's interior; most other makes and all of the older Corvettes had a lot of interior detail -- specifically chrome or other metals and sometimes wood -- that the current models don't have. I, too, like Nassau blue and most of those mid-value metallic colors, but I don't think that it would change the effect. Not that you asked, but my personal favorite on the C6 is silver, which makes the most of those sharp sculpture lines and is as good a color as anything I've seen from Europe.

$1500 is way too low. A decent paint job worthy of a C6 runs $3K-$6K. A "showcar" job usually runs close to $10K depending on the number of coats (hours of hand wet-sanding).

Please bring back Nassau Blue ......if and when they bring it back I will buy a C6 instantly. I am really tired of torch red and it's slight deviations. And that monterey "BRICK" red whatever they named it this year.......SNOOOOOOOOOOOZZZZZZZZZZZEEEEE EEEEEEEE
2 Words: "Market Research"

GM knows that no matter what colors they offer, they won't pick everybody's favorite color, so they don't try. Color choice for a new model is a long process driven by the folks in marketing.

The Marketing Guys ( & Gals) have a bunch of color 'specialists' conduct research from 'Likely Buyers' to determine what colors and shades of the color that a majority of the likely buyers will like (e.g. Buy). Then the marketing guys and color specialists have lot's of meetings to consider the data (Focus Group inputs and Prior Year Sales data), name the colors and determine the costs involved. They consider the cost of both the color formulations and names (Intellectual Property Rights, people actually copy right colors and color names, GM buys them from DuPont or BASF, etc), the direct cost of materials per car and the BG Assembly's plants cost & capability of painting the cars with reasonable quality (Including Clean-Up and EPA impacts) and .....

Only after this considerable process do they choose what colors will be offered in a given model year. What's the result - Many like it, some do not. If they've done their jobs well than far more like the color choices than don't like them. In no case does anyone expect that everyone will like the colors, they only hope than any 'likely buyer' will find at least one color that they like And Buy !

If you don't see one you like now, wait a year or so and the color selection will change. There's not much you can do unless you can get into one of the focus groups or get a chance to respond to color survey...

I'll admit that I'm not really fond of the colors available for the C6. Blue needs to be Darker for my taste. But as long as they don't bring back brown or cream I can tolerate the colors. I really think they should do atleast one color that is really awesome, one that really stands out. It always seems like they try to pic a red-ish color they need to try something new.

However, as an ex-jazz and rock drummer, I have to say that I worked with a guitar player with a big ol' hollow body L5, and the only way he could stop the feedback through the monitors was to tape his "f" holes shut.

( Only a musician who remembers Tal Farlow would get that one... )

The 'master painters' at GM can barely paint these boring colors. Could you imagine how jacked up the paint would look if they actually had colors with depth?

That's why the B.B. King model ES has no f-holes. The first time the Gibson execs saw King perform live, he had socks stuffed in his f-holes. Personally, I love the feedback of my ES, I even got it with the non-potted pickups. The feedback is so strong it's like having a second instrument!

Paul,
What makes a non-stereo ES355 any different from an ES335?
$$$ - 355 5 ply body binding -335 white only - 355 neck & headstock Fully bound - Ebony fretboard real mother of pearl block inlays - 335 unbound headstock rosewood fingerboard -plastic block or dot inlays....
A pic would be easier - Non stereo does not have big Vari-tone switch...

Pulling out of Pit Lane - I'll bet your car looks awesome at dusk!![IMG][/IMG]
