I replied to the corvette terminoligy thread but I really wanted to start a new thread so sorry about the duplication. There are several types of Corvette owners.... enthusiasts, just another car types and of course those that may become enthusiasts once they own one..We all started with our first one.....What happens next??????
It seems that everywhere you go people have either owned a Vette, or knew soneone that bought one from a deceased Viet Nam soldiers surving mother or wife. (I have heard that one at least a hundred times) Some people will tell you they remember when Corvettes were made out of metal or maybe they just make up something like having fuel injected 427 Sting Ray.. to get the conversation going. Then there are "the Know it alls" who can be quite annoying..... Soo... it is nice to know the basics. I have owned 13 Corvette over the years but this is ny first new one. Here is a small list of essentials for Corvette owners.
1...There are NO production corvettes made out of metal ..period...
2.. There are No 83 corvettes except a white one in the museum and a couple rumored to be in Europe.
3... The first fuel injected Corvette was 1957 and all fuel injected Corvettes were small blocks.
4...68's do not have a Stingray badge.
5...Sting Ray=63-67 (called mid-years)
6... Stingray =69-mid 77 (C-3)
7... 68-82 are known as sharks.
8... 74-82 are known as rubber bumper sharks
9...53,54 and a few 55's had 6 cylinder engines and were two speed automatics.
10 ...the last 427 big block was 1969 (70-74 had 454's)
I'm sure there are a few more things that are worth mentioning but those are the important ones. Enjoy your car.
So when someone tells you they remember when corvette were made out of metal or they had an 83 with a 427 in it you will know they are full of ####

Odd that you mention Viet Nam as I am right now watching the History Channel and "10,000 Day War" is on. Brings back bad memories as we lost a lot of good people in that war.
But I digress. Yeah, I agree with that which you have put on your list. I would only include the Pace Cars and the Anniversary Editions.
When it comes to Corvettes, I am more into performance options as opposed to these special editions, which really amount to nothing more than paint, decals, and special interior trim. But they still have historical significance. The 1978 25th Anniversary and the '78 Pace Cars, the 40th Aniversary editions, the 50th Anniversary editions and the Commemorative editions. And any that I forgot
C1- 1953-62
C2- 1963-67
C3- 1968-82
C4- 1984(technically '83 but no '83s were sold to the public)-96
C5- 1997-2004
C6- 2005-present

The Corvette has got to be the most "Storied" car in the history of automotive history. Everyone has a story about a Corvette, even if its about some kid in their high school class that had one 50 years ago
1970 Corvette was avilable with 454, aluminum heads, single 850 holley on aluminum hi-rise, solid lifter cam, rated at 465 stump pulling hp. Think it was called an LS6? Big bucks (for the time) and very limited production. Think I heard that 13 were produced. I know the engine was avilable. Perhaps it was a Motion Performance car, but I thought it was factory. Anybody?
According to what I understand.... No corvettes were so sold with the LS6 option but there were some Chevelles sold that way and the engine was available OTC. documentation varies so it is hard to say...I am not a historian... Nolan Adams may know... Check out www.NCRS.org

It's amazing how there are more 427 67 Corvettes around now than ever left the factory. Thanks to the Magic of EBay and the hobby becoming overun with money making.

Same with all mid-years, where do they all come from
The most powerful stock engine was the L88, 525+ hp (rated at 425)
Actually...not. The most powerful was the '69 ZL1, an all aluminum 427 "rated" by the factory at 430 horsepower (gross) but actually putting out roughly 560.
There were no corvette convertibles between 76-85, 86 brought back the vert to stay!
The least powerful vette was the 1953, 150 hp. The most powerful stock engine was the L88, 525+ hp (rated at 425)
White is the only color that has always been offered in every vette model.
Monty Red is the fastest color!
Jagcvette,
I don’t believe that it is accurate to say; “White is the only color always offered in every Vette model”. Maybe offered in every production "MODEL YEAR" but not every “MODEL”! White C6 ZO6’s…I don’t think so?
As to "Monty Red" being the fastest color...you are correct about the Red part but it is "VICTORY" Red that is fastest color!

A member of our club has a white C5 Z06 and I am pretty sure it is stock. Want me to verify that for you?

Actually there were white Z06s. There were 352 Speedway White Z06s made for 2001. A guy tried to sell me a used one at a Dodge dealership where I was looking at a Viper last year before I bought my C6.
There are no white Z06s after that however.
