I actually got this car more for the improved handling balanced with smoothness and comfort than for the additional 50hp over my C5.
The only time I feel as if I could use a few more HP is in a straight line. The thing is wicked fast through the curves. I don't think I could take much more speed through them. Remember that mountain drive video I posted of all those 1G+ turns?
Completely satisfied. I am not into drag racing and think that street racers should be thrown in jail for life before they take someone elses with their stupidity. I'm no prude. I will get on the car and enjoy the sports car that I bought but only under safe conditions. I prefer autocross and HPDE type events and I feel that the car all ready has much more to offer than my ability to drive at this point. I've never understood the need to insanely mod a car just so you can have the biggest xxxx. Bottom line, someone will always have more money, and will always be faster. Accept it, live with it and move on.

Completely agree. It is nice to see so many sane adults responding to this question. The base C6 is blindingly fast by standards of the 60's muscle car era vettes includes. If a person really 'needs' more hp they can buy a Z06. If they 'need' more than that IMO they also need counseling to improve their self image and self esteem since they are trying to bolster both with an automobile. In addition IMO anyone who 'needs' more hp than 505 for the street should consider viagra or other ED medication instead of trying to be 19 again through a car.
just my opinions. If you need 850 hp on city streets, in school zones, crosswalks, strip malls etc etc then be assured that I WILL report you to the local police if I observe street racing or reckless behavior. ( and I don't care if you are driving a vette )

I really don't get you guys who feel the need to put down our fellow corvette drivers simply because they choose to mod thier cars beyond what YOU have decided is "sane". Just because you don't understand the need to mod, makes it bad? You assume they need viagra, or have a self image problem? Man, that kind of limited thinking is what caused our fore fathers to head to America in the first place.
You guys should take pill, a chill pill and relax.
Completely satisfied, with a small caveat. I will more than likely add horses and torque, only because the hotrodder in me wants to see what can be done to the stock setup. More than likely, that will only involve headers, a new cold air intake set up, and tuning (already have catbacks, but put them on purely for the sound, and just installed a B&M short-throw shifter).
Darn it, I hate the fact there are so many aftermarket options for Vettes, just waiting to relieve me of my money (is this a great country or what???)!!!

The longer I have it the more I want to grab some of the "Low hanging fruit" for a little extra horsepower. Intake, exhaust and tune and that will be it.

You assume that people who own 850HP cars are not sane. Sorry but the amount of power that you may have in a car is not germaine, it is how it is used. There are many more insane people driving around in stock Civics. And with that being the case I guess in your mind we should all be on bicycles.
There is no such thing as too much HP. I will do some modding over the life of the car, just like I have with virtually every car I have ever owned. That said, I didn't buy it for the HP (I already had that with the C5) I bought it for the looks, the ride, the refinement and the drop top. If I never added another pony, I would still have a Cheshire cat smile on my face every time I drove the car!

The forum rules call for one to attack ideas as opposed to other forum members.
That being said, these are some of the most unusual ideas I have seen since being here.
I have followed a few of your posts and this one takes the cake for containing some of the most ridiculous ideas I have seen in ages.

Don't you think thats just a little judgemental.
BTW OregonC6, if you "need " 400 horsepower on city streets, in school zones, crosswalks, strip malls etc etc then be assured that I WILL report you to the local police if I observe you street racing or reckless behavior. ( and I don't care if you are driving a vette with "only" 400 horsepower.)
All the cars I've recently owned had an escalating degree of hp, tq, agility, etc. I appear to be totally thrilled initially, but after a few years (if that), I grow accustomed to the power and desire more.
An enthusiast doesn't stay content for long... especially when competition among car makers continues to increase during this current boom of the hp wars (which I am very thankful to live in!). Soon 400 hp may become more common place, especially with the return of the Camaro and such. The C6 may then sound much less impressive. Remember, the first vettes only pumped out 150 hp out of a 6 banger. How many would have stayed content with that? It is because of continued R&D that we have what we enjoy today.
Of course it is arguably true that 400 hp is enough and any more is unnecessary for daily street use, but heck, a few years ago many would have said 400 hp would have been overkill. I am thankful for the push to strive for more in the auto industry which creates huge excitement these days, and also for the LS2's adaptabilty for modding.

totally.
And as a former Civic owner myself (all-motor Si and CRX Si some years back), I can easily testify to the huge number of insane drivers doing stupid things on public roadways. I was challenged and cut off many times. I'd seen foolish drivers running red lights, doubling the speed limit in residential areas and even witnessed accidents they brought upon themselves...and these were in cars with little over 100 to the low 200 hp range with some mods! It was as if THEY had something desperate to prove...not C6 owners! I've been challenged many times in the C6, but never compelled to race. The power is there for my appreciation. It is a matter of maturity, not horsepower.

excellent post! Maturity is the entire key..........
