Cool story. Being a Trooper here in NJ and having had my C6 for almost two years the thing still continues to even impress me! Those Crown Vics are dogs anyway.
They havn't made a decent cop car since the 440 Plymouths.

Actually as 01VETTECOP posted, the Caprices of the mid to late 90's were a very good car for a marked unit. They ran very well but I'm pretty sure they had the LT1 not the LS1.
Lastly, I drove a B4C Camaro for almost 7 years while I was assigned to the traffic division. Very impressive car, but not very comfortable after 10 hours in the saddle.
I tried to talk the city fathers into a B4C, told them we could skip all the costs of prosecution- just cuff the perp then stuff him in the back seat of a Camaro for a couple of hours, he'd be sufficiently punished.
they need all the help they can get.. hartford has one of the highest crime rates per capita in the entire nation.
Sometimes i miss connecticut, but then i just remember the constant rain and horrid winters and i come back to my senses..
i think i had the top off of my vette for a month straight in the winter... just perfect weather down here in az.
i do miss the tradition back north though...
sports especially.
I hate you......... just kidding! Believe me one of these days I plan to be away from this weather! My plan is simple... I'm going to load my snowblower into the back of my pickup. Drive south until someone asks what that thing is in the back of my truck! I know then I'm far enough south to throw down the anchor!!

SS Impala 1994 to 1996? It was the LT-1 350 but it is still a heavy car the 5.0 Mustang or Z/28 Car would be quicker

No, I was referring to the Caprice Classics with the LT1s that were used for marked cars. Those cars were very stong. I'm not positive the exact years they had the LT1 in them but I remember using them in the mid to later 90's. As far as 5.0s and Camaros for regular patrol in the NJSP........forget it.
Although I would never do it, I always thought it would be one hell of an experience to blow by a trooper in the Vette. See ya bye. By the time he got up to speed without the help of copters, as you noted, you would be long gone. Although if he/she had a quick eye they probably could get your lic tag.

Not condoning this behavior just "a boys dream"
Just like that movie with the Alien that steals a Ferrari and has an appetite for fast cars. "The Hidden".
Crown Vic was a pig but very comfortable; handled like a Yacht. Early to mid nineties Caprice Classics handled much better but weren't any quicker. I liked the newer Impalas much better. But, the plain old Grand Furys with the V8's were the best all around cars for Patrol in the Big Apple.

Are Impalla SS 94 - 96 with LT-1 Corvette motor comfortable cars to drive with a suspension that isn't a buck board ride?
Love the luxury ride of the now discontinued Buick Ultra Park Avenue.

Wasn't there also a problem with the Crown Vic patrol cars catching fire when hit in the rear ? Those old Grand Furys were tanks. My cousin & his partner were T boned in one while on patrol in Brooklyn. They got banged up pretty bad but both survived the accident.
