My sister in law got my car for me and picked me up in it thinking it would be a nice suprise...
Dude,... your sister-in-law is either the coolest person on Earth, or she just REALLY needed an excuse to drive your new car, which basically makes her evil.

The fact that Lexus, Infiniti, BMW, Audi and soon every import has it doesn't make it a smart decision. Why can't GM just stick to making a good vehicle and spare the gimmicks. the electric door opener also works no better no worse than a regular handle. So what's the point - ? better security perhaps. Wait till your remote FOB battery goes dead. You not only have to fight your way in with the lever on a string but use the emergency start in the glove box. Worse if your car battery goes dead. Can you just jump start it using the push button ? Do you have to reprogram everything ? The uncomfortable FOB and key sit in my pocket when I drive when it should be in the ignition. My dad used to have a car way back then that has a start button. This gadget should actually be viewed as retro...
Man this place is hoppin... very cool. Remember, I'm over here from from the Porsche camp... great cars, but those snobs (just cut myself down) never reply to your posts ... LOL
I'm a bit surprised no one has mentioned the passive entry system (PKE) on the last four years of the C4 model cars: '93, '94, '95, and 96 - walk up to the car, the door or doors opened; walk away from the car, the door or doors locked, depending on how you had them programed.
For reasons most of us didn't understand the PKE system was dropped on the C5s.
I loved the PKE system on my two latter year C4s and hated that the C5s didn't have it as did many C5 owners who had previously owned C4s.
Coming into the C6 platform with a passive entry system is like "coming home." And the keyless start? The convenience is great.

Old is not synonymous with stodgy.

My 97 C5 has PKE. I think GM dropped it after the 99 model.
Most high end cars have it and more to come. I have it on three of my vehicles and love it. Some one posted it'll go away as a fad....that ain't gonna happen, it's here to stay.
Do C6 owners feel that keyless entry and push button start are true advances providing better ownership experiences or merely technical gimmicks that add complexity and don't really add anything to the car?
This is absolutely not a put down of the C6, just an honest question. I am an '04 C5 owner considering purchase of a new C6.
Thanks,
Ken
Keyless entry and push button start are innovations which are here to stay and for good reason.
They are extremely convenient. I wish that all my cars had the keyless start and entry. In the future, they will.
For the naysayers, I wonder if drivers were this resistant to advances like power windows, power door locks, power steering and power brakes, intermittent wipers, seek and scan radios, rear window defrosters, and self unlocking doors when the car was placed in park.
I don't even use keys to my house anymore, preferring one of these.

Next step biometrics. Your thumb will be read by the rocker switch. Keys are old school (so are credit cards). The future is slowly coming and it won't be carrying a lot of keys and credit cards in your pocket. Your lowly thumb will probably do it all.

The fob batteries are supposed to last about 3 years. When a fob battery goes dead, you might have to start it the way you said ONE TIME. Most people then have sense enough to go buy another battery. Of course, most people also have 2 fobs, so they can use the other fob until they get another fob battery.
If your car battery goes dead, treat it just like any other dead car battery. What's changed?
The only thing you have to reprogram is the window indexing if the car battery goes dead. You don't reprogram anything if the fob battery goes dead.
Welcome to the 21st century where you have electric windows, electric door locks, electric rear window defoggers.
I like the convenience part, but I don't like that it will turn the car off going down the road at 70 MPH if you happen to bump it.I have hit it twice now while trying to change the DIC to read something different.Man is that scarry!:o

Say what? Your DIC's a bit higher than the starter right?

Really, it will shut down the engine while you are driving at 70MPH if you hit the button? What happens? Does the engine lock up or does it still turn but you slow down very quickly?

There's less chance of that happening in the '07s. The '07s have a slight delay that requires the bottom of the switch to be held down about a second before it the shutdown sequence begins.
