Do C6 owners feel that keyless entry and push button start are true advances providing better ownership experiences or merely technical gimmicks that add complexity and don't really add anything to the car?
This is absolutely not a put down of the C6, just an honest question. I am an '04 C5 owner considering purchase of a new C6.

Thanks,

It is the way all cars should be. I get irritated now when I drive another car and I have to remember to go find the key, unlock the car and lock it afterwards. With the C6 you don't worry about these things.

You won't ever ask that question again once you get out of the vette with your hands full or get into the vette with your hands full. Did you also ask such a question about garage door openers before you saw or had your first one?
What about electric windows? Does your car have'em or do you still turn a crank?

I don't like it. Seems way to much fuss about a limited security advance, at least with the current setup. You have to keep another key anyway. I have not had much service done or valet parked yet, but that too may present problems. There have been other posts on this subject, and the problems others have had. On the other hand, if you really like the key-less door entry look, then there is no reason to have fob and a ignition key. On a funny note, I left my C6 running unattended awhile ago because I did not have the radio on; I was is a noisy parking lot, and did not realize that I had not pushed the button to turn off the car. I locked the car with the fob or the door buttons however, and all was fine. That situation could never happen with a key on a ring that opens my office door or home doors. Part of that problem is that my car is not a daily driver for me, and I sometimes forget to carry the fob with me and all my other keys that start my truck, open my house, etc, are on another ring.
I like the idea but I'm not convinced it's reliable enough. It only takes one glance at the "emergency" door releases to remind us that it's not perfect.
I like leaving the FOB in my pocket (something I had to get used to) but I HATE the pause of the outer electric door handles. Just let me in my car!
But GM may be smarter than we give them credit for because I insisted on buying the longest extended warranty I could because all this electrical crap is going to fail sooner or later... I'm betting later it will be worse.
The keyless entry for the door is great! It is a real convenience to be able to unlock and open the door without fumbling around for a key.
I'm still getting used to the keyless ignition. I haven't really seen the benefit to it yet. Out of habit, I still start to fish the key out of my pocket sometimes before I catch myself and remember that I don't need it.
I really had my doubts at first but I have to admit...both features are great! I just carry my fob (still with a key) in my pocket. It knows when I'm there to unlock the car....it lets me start it with the mere push of a button and the car locks itself when I walk away. I mean how cool is that?
... true advances providing better ownership experiences or merely technical gimmicks that add complexity...?
It's an advanced technical gimmick that adds complexity to your better ownership experience.
(Seriously, it is indeed more stuff to break, and also gimmicky, but also handy to have, especially once you are used to the feature. Getting fuel this AM while dark, I was on pass side wih fob in pocket and light was green for start. I walked away... backed up, backed up... as far as I could see through window, it was still green, but then finally could not see any longer and heard the beep indicating door lock. And yet, some claim if you are even in pass seat instead of driver's, it should know you are in wrong location and not start... )
just make sure that when you switch drivers you switch keys... just got my car, and was admitted to the hospital the next day. My sister in law got my car for me and picked me up in it thinking it would be a nice suprise... I drove her back to her house, then stopped by the store on the way home, but no key fob in my pocket... had to leave the car running in the parking lot. But otherwise it's kinda cool, but I would still like the car without it... seems a little cheesy
