This is absolutely not a put down of the C6, just an honest question. I am an '04 C5 owner considering purchase of a new C6.

Thanks,

Ken
I have it on my 07 C6 I like it and it is the future!

Yes it does shut all the way down, had to put auto trans in nuetral and restart, now for a 58 year old this quick of thinking does not come easy,it was scary both times I did it. I only taped it, I did not have to hold the button in for any length of time to kill the engine.

Default Sorry I am old school...

Did you lose power steering and brakes ? My old old LTD was going down hill when it stalled and I lost everything. Destroyed someone's front lawn and ran over several small trees. Good thing it didn't hit the house... Also wonder if the C6 has a steering lock and if so, would the lock activate ?

I've learned to live with it, but frankly I'd prefer a simple reliable mechanical key. The wireless electronic locking system has too many quirks, the fob is bulky, etc. I'd rather just have another key on my key ring.

It will disappear like the column lock assembly. The key and switch will be back on the C7.

I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts on that one!

My C5 had a fob that talked to the car and locked and unlocked the doors. My C6 is one step better.

With the fob in your pocket the ability to start your car a second time, if you got car jacked, goes away.

Also in the winter when you have a long coat or a hip length jacket and are wearing gloves you don't have to fumble with the keys.

I agree on the long extended warranty in case the headlight talking to the ABS decides you can't go anywhere.

Love it. Won't trade for a car that doesn't have it. In 10 years, all cars will have it.

They are very worthwhile features.

In response to the comment about the C5 not having the passive lock feature: the 97 I had used to have a little slider switch on the remote that would switch between the passive mode or the regular mode where you had to push the button to lock or unlock. If it was in passive mode the car would unlock when you walked up to it with the remote. I didn't particularly like that feature and left mine in the normal mode most of the time.
I really do like the keyless entry and start feature of my 05 model though. Only had it a short time, but I have found that to be a very nice feature.

It's the best! It's so logical...it's so natural for me to keep the key in my pocket, walk up-open the door and push the button...I try to do it on every car that I drive...It's hard to go back to the old illogical way of fumbling with keys...just another perk to the C6

"A cheap gimick." You didn't do your homework Tom. That is the way that race cars start. Do you really think that they have a key?
It really is a nice convenience once you get used to it. (About 5 minutes.)

I think its a gimmick, find it useless and sure wish I had my C6 with an ignition key just like my other GM cars. Not to mention saving some ounces of the back up lock out options inside the car and trunk.

Electronics have proven to be the most reliable and accurate components in most everything we touch.
It's those "old school" mechanical pieces of hardware that continue wear out, plague, or require us to go through extra steps or processes to complete simplest of tasks.
Human nature dictates that we as beings are resistant to change... so I'm not surprised that there are so many negative posts here. The ignition key switch as we know it will soon go the way of the covered wagon ...

I have had the locks fail twice, leaving me stranded both times. A true key lock backup would have been a blessing. I don't mean to just get into the car, but a key that would actually start the car.
