Picture this... You could mod the ol lady. Maybe add a little performance in the curves, tune er up to make her more responsive, maybe a few appearence mods. Next thing ya know ya got yer hands on Angelina Jolie. Would ya do it? I know someone is going to post they wouldnt, they like her just the way she is. To you I say, "LIAR!" in advance.

At any rate GM didnt consult me during the development of the C6. If they had I wouldnt need to change a thing. Since they didnt, well, I gotta do what I need to make it just right. Im not expecting a phone call from them requesting my input for C7 so I'll probably have to adjust that one too.

Reminds me of some of the guys who spend big bucks for plastic surgery for their wives.

I have a friend who is a plastic surgeon who has done a few procedures on his own wife, Botox, chemical peel, etc. while he was in residency before doing them on his other patients first.

I was thinking more along the lines of that remote in the Adam Sandler movie.

Im actually quite happy with my wife and a lucky man to have her. What I meant was that while she is what she is my vette can be made to be exactly the car I want. Hats off to the designers but there are a few things that I wanted to change to suit my tastes.

Having a highly modified C6 myself, I was glad to see at least one magazine believed my car is still a Corvette...

Perhaps you can spend part of your retirement learning about the mod fever that drives some of your fellow vette owners by flipping through the pages of Corvette Magazine, Corvette Fever, Corvette Enthusiast, Vette, and Vette Vues. Good luck with your car (whether you mod or not).

Spot on! I've never seen a car that couldn't stand improvement in one way or another. The C6 Corvette is no exception. Since I'm not the Chief Designer at an auto factory, I do what I can in my own shop, starting with a car that's "close" to what I want. This time, that car's a Corvette. Other times it has been other cars, or trucks, or even farm tractors. If it has an engine and wheels, I'm generally looking at it with an eye to how I can make it better, for me, than how it came out of the factory. Its a hobby and its a passion. Otherwise I'd just go buy a KIA, with its 10 year warranty, sell my tools, and call it a day.

Very proud to say that i have one of the nicest "basterdized" corvettes on the planet. Its also a poser z06 clone w/ badges!

How about all those poser wannabes cloning the muscle cars of the late 60's and early 70's. camaros cloned as ss & z28's, mustangs cloned as shelbys, machs. I saw a guy driving a 67 mustang fastback Eleanor clone, what a loser!!!!

Probably the best way to explain why someone would modify or
"bastardize" a perfectly good 50K car is to treat the phenomenon
as a disease. From the responses I've read it would seem that all
of us are simply in various stages of that disease ; from chronic
to those in full remission.
If you haven't seen the Anthony Hopkins movie "The World's
Fastest Indian" - see it! In my mind at least, the best portrayal
of the true hotrodding, need-for-speed disease we all seem
to be afflicted with. A motion picture "worth a thousand words".
And I agree; the original poster is NOT a car enthusiast.

Porsche & BMW owners never touch their cars. They're all bone stock; every one of them.

Earings? What about some of those other aftermarket mods girls do at the plastic surgeon?

You are f**king sh***ng me, right?...OK, I can understand a rare car - i.e. C1, C2, etc. not being modded in order to preserve its value. Otherwise, modding a vette does not make it any less a vette. You seem to think that whatever was crapped out of the factory is perfect and thus does not need to be modded. But some folks like the look of their car with different wheels, or enjoy the rush of a 9 second pass over a stock 11 or 12 second pass. Plus if everyone kept theirs stock, the vette community would be a hell of a lot more boring.

Did they buy their new vette, with the idea of modifying it to improve its looks/performance?

Did the vette not meet their expectations?

My vette, an 07 Z51 MZ6 has exceeded all my expectations... and I've yet to do anything near its potential. To me, the C6 is a near-supercar and I'm a bit confounded as to why so many modify their vettes. I do expect that the forum is not a "true cross section" of corvette owners and by and large most owners don't do any modifications to their cars. I know that I'm planning on leaving mine bone stock and just enjoying it.

best,

07LeMans

I found the brakes were not adequate. The smelled and got real hot. I added Baer rotors and ceramic pads. Voila - no more prob. :-)

I also added a SS/ceramic tunnel plate to abate heat in the center console. - Also worked like a dream. :-)

To me modding the Vette is just part of the fun.....doesn't work for everybody but then neither does the Vette As far as other sports cars getting mods.....they do. I saw an article in Automotive News recently about a company making a name tag for your Porshe in Porshe script so you can name your own car. Now that's tacky ........gee I wonder if they would make me F55 emblems in Corvette scri.......never mind

Opened a can of worms on this one. I wasn't going to mod my c6 either but now it's started and I haven't had it a year yet. To each his own. I added a B&M shifter this weekend and it's a definite upgrade. I enjoy doing things like this. Some of the most valuable cars today were MODIFIED by the likes of Motion Performance and Calloway.

So true. I wonder if a C6 Corvette modified by Chip Foose would loose value because of it being "bastardized". Hmmmm... I'm guessing it would be worth a lot more than it was at MSRP brand new.

You might reconsider that advice...

My '05 ZO6 vert has a lot of bugs in it and is simply not living up to expectations.

To mod or not is an individual decision. As has been stated, the car was designed as a compromise and some of us want to get rid of some of those compromises.

I, (unfortunately?) have a near-terminal case of mod fever. So far, a Lingenfelter 403 engine upgrade, Abs-of-Steel tunnel plate, LG Long Tube headers with hi-flo cats and Corsa Sports exhaust. Do I "need" the 575 hp in contrast to the stock 400 hp? No, but it is what I wanted. This month will see a MovIt "big brake" (275x35mm 6-piston front/240x28mm 4-piston rear), and new Z06 sized rims and tires. In January or February I'll put on Caravaggio rear flares to house all that meat. After all, I now have plenty of "go" and need some more "whoa".

If you don't like what I've done and truly think that I have "bastardized" my car that is certainly your prerogative. Thankfully, I didn't have to ask your or anyone else's permission to mod my car.
