Hopefully you did not win this in the Nigerian lottery. Are they sending a "special courier" to pick up the tax money before you get the car?
Just joking Congratulations!

Ok, I'll be the non-fun guy Sell your existing vette and pay the taxes on the new one with that. Take the balance of the cash and dump it into a college savings plan for your kids. Everyone wins, you get a new vette, and you just made your savings for the kids education a lot easier.
Not only state and local taxes, the IRS will treat the value as income come tax time. Get ready.
I won a $45,000 boat two years ago. With all the taxes this free boat cost $15,000. The total value of what you win is added to your state and federal taxes as income.

My question now is do I pay taxes based on the MSRP of the car? I ask because I see all over the internet and dealer ads that they are selling at significant discounts from MSRP. Dealer wants me to come get it ASAP so they can get deduction for '07, while I am not going to pick it up till Jan so I don't have to pay final tax bill till apr '08. weren't too pleased, but it's not like they can try to walk away from the deal, since it isn't a deal it's a give away.

Flame suit on...
definitely one of the options under consideration. sell the vert, payoff existing car loans (minivan & pilot) and put the freed up cash ~$800 a month into accounts for kids.... and I still get to keep the '03

Yes, I won one of those too this week. All I had to was send them my bank account info and all my person information, so they could use my account for some transaction, and I get to keep like a million dollars. I can't wait.
Congrats! I bought a $100 ticket in the Canadian Cancer Society's cash and cars lottery, and one of their prize packages is a 2007 Corvette plus $35k in cash. Up here we don't need to pay any taxes when we win a car, so it's free and clear for us. In fact, even when we win cash in the lottery we don't need to pay any income tax on it at all! So if I were to win the $1 million grand prize in this particular draw, I'd get a check for exactly $1,000,000. Although I'd rather win the $30,000,000 in this Friday's Super 7 draw up here, I could buy a lot more Corvettes and a huge house with a lot of garage space with that money.
