Tire Replacement Question
I lost a couple of weights off both of my front tires and didn't realize it as there was no vibration in the steering wheel.
However, on a recent trip to Rocky Mount, NC when I was "forced" to go above the posted speed limit of 70 mph, there was a pronounced shake in the steering wheel between 80 and 85 mph.
When I had the tires balanced at the local Sears that day, the insides of both tires were worn almost bare and the right side has a treadless section approximately 18" long.
I priced new tires at TireRack and when I tried to see the shipping charges, a notice came up that said if I was selecting less than full set of replacement tires, I should use the "Tire Decision Guide" feature of the web site to select the best tire for my needs even though I had already chosen the 245/40ZR18 LL Goodyear Eagle F1 A/S-C EMT Blackwall RunFlat OEM tire.
Having said all of the above, is it required to buy all four tires? Can I just replace the two front ones? I still have plenty of tread left on the rear even with 26k miles on them and they are probably good for another 15k miles or so.
Your description doesn't exactly match a "missing" weight. What you are describing is an alignment issue with toe and caster. When you replace the tires, get a full alignment. A missing weight won't usually give a bare "patch" on a tire.

LJD51, to answer your last question, IMO, it is not necessary to replace all four tires if your backs are in good condition. You should certainly get a balance and alignment ASAP with your new fronts.
As the other posts correctly stated, the missing weights did not cause abnormal wear and improper alignment did not cause "shake" when you were forced over the speed limit.

Those F1 AS/-C tires are ALL SEASON tires (I know cuz I got all 4 of them on my 2007 Coupe) and they are NOT the standard F1 GS-2 EMT tires that comes with the C6 (or Supercar EMT's that come with the Z51 option C6's) . Difference being in compound only which the All Seasons give much better grip in colder temps below 40 degrees & snow with a bit less of grip in summer temps. I suggest you match with all 4 of the same, though its certainly not life or death. But you would be having different compounds front and rear.
