I just went out and counted mine...and I have exactly 2,007 dots.
Since I have 2007 model, this makes perfect sense.

Anybody with a '05 or '06 that would like to confirm this?

From, what I understand, the black dots as part of a solid band of black which allows for a rough surface. Such a surface allows for the adhesive on the windshield to have something to adhere. It is simply for looks the dots are supposed to be a gradual decline from the solid black and lead to a more aesthetically pleasing look.

Another theory is that it could be advertising:

Black Dots is a collection of early songs recorded by Bad Brains. It was recorded at Inner Ear Studios in 1979, which at the time was in Don Zientara's basement. The album was released in 1996 with a complete set of liner notes.

Someone should get a razor blade and try to scrape off the dots. Let us know how it goes, you will be a hero. But I agree with some previous posts, I think they make our cars go really fast. I think the total sum of 2007 dots lets us get at least 30 more horsepower than with no dots. I hear the that 2008th dot will yield at least 50 extra hp.

I stopped at the mall the other day and they have dots too - dippen dots. So as fashion goes, future cars will have dots that are color coordinated.
