Default 08 Z06 or 08 435HP C6........

A delimma....I have been putting a lot of thought into this.....08C6 435 HP 45000? [base car] then we have the king 08 Z06 505 HP 75000 base car......Now this takes into consideration that the 08 Z will stay relatively the same as far as numbers......30000 $ is a lot of money between the two cars....Chime in with your thoughts....

Is the 435 H.P. confirmed?

My thoughts.....

I like to tinker with cars. Sure it may not be cost effective to sink a pretty good sum of cash into a C6, but why not?

On the other hand, if you get a Z06 the beast really doesn't need much else. It already has some pretty nice wheels, wide body, and a nice sounding exhaust after you buy that bypass switch.

All in all, if you are like me, either way you look at it you'll still be spending about the same for a Vette!

That probably doesn't help much!

It is "rumored" that to get the 435 HP you will have to get the Z51. Which will bump up your purchase price about another 2K. An 08 Z51 w/ 435 HP will be quite a performer. IMHO, close enough of a "street performer" to the Z to make the extra 30K not really worth it. My bad experience with my '06 (it should have been yellow) has worn off. And, I will be purchasing an '08 Z51. With the 30K difference I'll take a trip around the World.

The current C6 and Z06 are priced about $20000 differently. That is $20000 for roughly 10 more mph or $2000 per mph, not a very good bargain in my mind, since most of us won't get close to using any of that speed. It's about the driving pleasure to me which of course either car will be emjoyable, but the top comes off of the C6 and $20000 will buy a lot of gas.

I love my C6, I have the cash to get a Z06 and give my wife the C6. However, each time I go to the dealer, a little voice just tells me to hold off. I honestly do not see the Z06 being $30k better than the C6. No matter how much I test drive it, sit in it, etc.

I've battled with the choice myself and I keep coming to the conclusion that I already really can't use all the power on the street..so why would I need another 100Hp that I can't really make use of? Unless I was rich and had plenty of extra money I'll stick with my C6..mod it to my liking and enjoy the extra cash left over from not buying a Z06.

If you've got plenty of money to throw around then get a Z06, but if you feel like it might be a tight purchase financially..go with the C6.

Another reason to not want a Z06 is if its a daily driver and you have to shift all the time in traffic. My C6 is a daily driver so I prefer an automatic.

I'm glad I never have to consider this issue. As long as they won't make a convertible Z06, I'll continue to have no interest in it.

I have a similar issue..

I have an 02 Z06 and was looking at the new Z06, but the reality is that I would have to sell my 02 and add about 55K to get the new one. I drove a 07 Coupe the other day and I was very impressed. It's not as tight as my current car but still very nice. I was wondering that if the 08 comes out with a few extra ponies and throw in the Z51 package, I could have a nice upgrade from my current car and only have to add about 25K or so to get it.

Hopefully next month we will know what is in store for the 08 models.

Paul.

One more month and we will know what is in store for the 08's. I doubt you will be buying a base 08 with 425 and new trans for 45K. Dealers have had to take less profit by discounting 07s off msrp and will jump at the opportunity to do some serious gouging again. If I buy an 08 it'll be in the middle of this coming winter when vettes are not selling.

Don't forget the Z06 weighs less so it's not just about 70 hp. IF it turns out that the base is 425 and Z51 435 I can't wait for all the posts claiming that the extra ten hp make the Z51 so much faster it's almost a Z06. That will all be very entertaining.

For bragging rights and pride of owning the king I'd go for the Z06. I think it would still be far superior to even a 435hp Z51. Way ahead.

However, bragging rights aside I personally don't see much difference in the present 400 hp and the 505 hp Z06 IF we are talking about everyday driving in urban areas with school zones, speed traps, photo radar, photo stop lights, 25mph speed limits etc etc. So 400, 425, 435, 505, 650....whatever....from 400 upward there is so much power that can so seldom really be safely and legally used whatcha gonna do with more?

I'd go with the 08 435 Z51 rather than the Z06 simply because I cannot afford the Z06. No shame in that I can afford the base car and that's more than most. I'd rather own the king Z06 but it's a lot more money. But then, who is going to say that a 425hp base non Z51 would be a poor choice? Man, 400 already makes the car a screamer and add another 25hp it won't get any slower.

just my opinions all C6s are good any year any option any model and even any color.

Good luck--It's not an easy choice for me.

I would get a new or used 06 or 07 Z for under 70k, there are a ton of them for sale now. A used one sold on this forum for $62k, even better.

While speculation has the C6 Z51 at 435 (425 non Z51) I'm quite skeptical that it will come to pass. Especially if they are relying on the Z06 exhaust to net the 10hp difference to the rear wheels. If you are willing to wait, the reality will unfold in a month and a day. Until that time it is a 400hp C6 vs. the 505 C6 Z06 with a price gap of about 28,000 optioned equivelantly. If you are willing to hedge your bets and get on a pre-order list, make sure you have a walk away clause based on predicted numbers.

Good input...Money is a bit of an issue, looking at getting rid of a couple toys, then getting a base 08,, maybe leaving room for future mods...If the auto is rated at 425, i might go that route...It is my opinion they would hike the 08 Z to 525 to keep the spread between them...But is the 75++ HP [AND many other goodies] in the Z worth it? i AM working on that one.....

Too lazy to row my own besides i like to keep one hand free to hold the ladyfriend's hand.

Certainly if you run your car at the track, no doubt, the Z06.

this is the main reason why i don't think there will be a big hp jump for the C6 for 08, chevy wouldn't do that to the z06.

hey, everyone dream can they...

I can assure you there want be less than 425hp on the 2008 base C6.. This is the mid-year update to the C6 line like most all of the past model Corvettes got mid-year engine/Hp upgrades. I think there is a chance we may get a 450Hp DoD LS3 C6 for the 2008 model according to a few guys on the forum with some inside connections.

There will be a 2008 C6 Z51 Automatic available with an optional performance axle(A6 auto only). Thats the route I'm going to go.

Their won't be any gouging because, quite simply, the demand will not be there even though you seem to feed into the 'hype'. Between the stock market, the housing market and the overall economy the 08's will sell more poorly than the 07's.
