I've been lurking here for awhile with the intention of buying a C6. My timeframe was around Feb. time next year. The car has to be PERFECT... I've bought too many cars and have settled on certain things and was never fully happy with the car. Well, I really had my heart set on LMB, but to my horror, the 08 won't be sold in that color, and the only other color i would consider buying was the MR, which is also being discontinued. And i HATE the new rumored Bluestream color, and I'm not crazy about the new rims either.

So I could wait and see if I like the new Crystal Claret, which will still be second to LMB, or hope that they bring back one of the colors for 09, but then I'd have to wait until mid next year, which I don't want to do. I was however looking forward to the LS3, and perhaps some of the newer interior stuff. To make things more complicated, I've found a local used 07, C6, LMB 6MT Z51, 2LT with 1800 miles, which would be exactly what I want in an 07, and the price is right as well. Unfortunately it's a bit early and if I buy it now I'll have some problems elsewhere with other cars and other finances.

So my options are:

1. wait and see what the Crystal Claret is like, if I like it, everything works out okay, and I buy next Feb. But it will still be second to LMB. (will I be settling with Crystal, if LMB really is my favorite?) If I don't like the Crystal color, I won't buy an 08, and will be taking a chance that I will like something of the 09, OR see if I can find the perfect used car come Feb, preferably locally so I can have it looked at by a professional.

2. Buy the perfect used one now, but deal with difficulties elsewhere. I'll probably have to liquidate some asset, and I'll have to figure out what I'm gonna do with my 3rd car, because I want to keep it in the long run, and I HAVE to keep the 2nd car for at least another year to make the wife happy.

What do I do? Any helpful insight?

I agree with you about LMB
I'd want the car NOW!!! Depends if you really want to deal with the difficulties now... You only live once!

Lots of tough choices here.

I bought my LMB in Nov., which I like very much, but had thought of trying the Daytona SS Orange (something different for me) as I had looked to buy a late year '06.

I couldn't find the "Orange" with a 6 speed manual ( I definately wanted that), so I went for the '07, finding out the SS Orange wasn't offered for '07s.

The price and personal financial situation was right, so I ordered it.

Had the above 2 conditions not been right, there's always another 'Vette and another year, for me.

Only you can make the right decision, but that was my experience.

Good luck!!

If you can't afford it now (and apparently you cannot by your own admission), then there really is no choice. You need to wait until you can afford it. Probably not what you wanted to hear, but you need to make sound financial decisions.

Much better to wait until the time is really right for you.

The real problem is that I promised the G35 coupe to my wife for at least until Feb. of next year, and I honestly don't want to have to worry about what to do with the '05 Acura, if I'm driving the vette, and she is driving the '06 G35. The Acura will be the long-term family car, so I don't want to sell it and I don't have garage space for it. I was going to sell the G35 for down payment on the C6, but I can liquidate some mutual funds (which I was planning on doing anyway) now and use that instead to buy now and sell the G35 next year to replenish this fund.

What I don't want to do is wait until next year, and then find out I don't like any color on '08 or '09, and then I'm stuck trying to find the PERFECT car, which I've already found now.

Wait until you have your finances in order then buy an 2007 in the color you want. You can certainly see what the Crystal Claret color looks like beforehand but why settle for anything less than the color you want.

We have totally different opinions of the 2008 LS3 engine. The rumored minor bump in horsepower can easily be achieved or surpassed with minor modifications to the LS2 engine. I'm just totally under-whelmed by a displacement of demand (DOD) engine in a high performance car.

You want "perfect." Get a C6 in the color you want but don't strap yourself financially in the process.

Very good advice.

'08, even if it brings the rumored 435hp spoken of here, will only make for about a 20hp increase over curent C6s when one takes into account the latest SAE guidelines GM will be using to rate horsepower in the '08. Were the same method used for the current non Z06 C6, it would be rated at around 415 horsepower right now.

So they'll let everyone think that there was a 25-35hp bump, when in actuality, we will be looking at a 10-20hp bump.

Have a talk with your banker about some creative financing that would allow you some breathing room until next year, possibly interest only or an 84 month finance period with no money down that you could step up the principle payments on..I have found that opportunity rarely comes at convenient times, and the rewards go to the bold and the creative.Get exactly what you want and writing out the payment check each month will be a pleasure.

Make the LMB deal work. This is where you have the major itch that needs to be scratched.

I'm not sure exactly what makes a PERFECT C6 for you besides the LMB color. If that is the main qualification there may be another angle you haven't considered... Buying a new 07 at a great discount very late in this calendar year, or early next.

I don't know where you are, or how savvy of a buyer you are. You say you've been lurking here for a while. Are you aware of the nationwide locator available? How about the forum dealers? Your post suggests you have mostly been looking locally. What are they asking for the used one? Depending on options, it should be easy to land a coupe for maybe 6-7k off retail now and 8-9k as time goes on. If you're not fussy about option groups, tops, Nav, Onstar, etc., I expect there will be LMB coupes available new for quite a few months to come.

Myself, I would not be anxious to rush in on the LS3 right away. Granted, it's not a new platform, and the DOD has been out in other vehicles for a little bit now, but I would still expect there to be some initial bugs to work out.

As advised above, don't get yourself in trouble to make it happen now. But if you think outside the bun, you might be able to come up with some other options regarding your wife's trade (sell outright). I don't know that now would be the best time to dump Mutual Funds...

Good Luck

Welcome to the forum. If I were in your shoes and could afford to buy now I would. You don't like the wheels on the '08 and don't like either of the replacement colors. You are taking a big risk waiting for the '09 with hopes of them coming back or at least coming out with something that you like better. Not to mention, the possibility of the C7 exists as early as 2010 (speculation of course). If I were you, I'd start searching the country for the car of your dreams. Use the Jeff Hardy lookup tool:

http://jeffhardy.com/lookupvette.php

This link will take you to a site that will search the GM Buypower website for in stock or recently produced vehicles and you can search on specific colors and options. You may very well find your dream car all ready built and waiting for you.

There is no way you should continue to deprive yourself of owning a great automobile. Life is way too short. Go find your car and start enjoying it.

Your pleasure is worth something. But it isn't worth getting yourself in a financial bind. Nor is it worth making unwise financial moves in order to accommodate your pleasure.

I say, wait, choose, select. You can always get different wheels, and not that expensively. There is no magic timeline by which you HAVE to buy this car, just when you'd LIKE to buy it. Color is a bit more difficult, but there are choices and not all of them are crystal "claret" or clear, yet.

Have fun, but be wise.

Assuming that LMB is the only color for you, then waiting for it to be discontinued, and "settling" on another color will always haunt you.
Everytime you look at a LMB Corvette, it will remind you that it was the only color you liked.
If you are like me, repainting is not an option - the car has to be painted in the right color from the factory.
Financially, you should not be strapped after purchasing the Corvette, because that will destroy your enjoyment.
It seems like you are at a Mexican stand-off.
Hopefully something happens that permits you to get the color you want.
