I just got my 05 lmb coupe back from the GM dealer after a total repaint that took them 8 weeks. I noticed the gas gauge was down to 1/8 of a tank and filled up with 18.5 gallons. Driving away I notice the LOW FUEL message is on. But I just filled up.
I tried shutting the car off, fidling with the gas cap, and re-starting but nuttin'. The battery had gone dead over the 8 weeks because the clock setting was off. Would disconnecting and re-connecting the battery fix it.
I have an appointment back at the GM dealer tomorrow at 7:30 AM but if I can fix it myself, it'll save me a trip.

Not sure if it's the same thing, but a number of the C5s have had a similar problem where the gauge isn't reading the amount of fuel correctly. They recommend using techron or seafoam to clean the fuel sensor in the tank. I did a search in C5 for "Gas Gauge." Below is one of the posts as an example. There are more to view if you use the same search words.
The C5 and C6 problems are not related and the type of fuel has nothing to do with the problem. If the C6 was produced before 4/1/05 some of them have a defective fuel card. Mine was one of them. The dealer knows all about it as there is a TSB on it. In most cases they do a flash and it's taken care of, in my case the left tank had to be removed and a new card installed.

Disconnecting and re-connecting the battery surely won't cure your inaccurate clock setting.....but I know what you mean.
I filled-up once and my gauge slowly climbed to show an accurate reading. It's never happened again but maybe your's is doing the same thing and it will 'right' itself on its own. You can try disconnecting the battery to see if it affects the low fuel warning. You'll have to re-index your windows but it couldn't hurt. See what happens. At least you know you're not running out of gas.
BTW your clock may be off simply because the battery was disconnected (and not necessarily because the battery went dead). If you still have your original battery and after all those weeks in the shop, I'd check the battery just for good measure.
I'm curious...why did you repaint your 2005? The paint on my 2005 still looks great....did you change the color?

I had extensive gravel damage all over the car from a wind downburst on top of Bozeman Pass. Every surface of the car was sandblasted, it meant all new windows, headlights and paint.

I ran outa' gas about 7:00 PM last night. While I was driving and thinking about the 18.5 gallons I put in when it only holds 18 gallons, she sputtered and died. What I had done is put the nozzle into the car but didn't choose the grade of gas and therefore wasn't filling as I was washing off the bugs on the windshield. I put in some Seafoam though.

Duh!
did the gas station charge you for the mystery gas?

Not to belittle your troubles, but now you know why the low fuel warning was on
Next time you go to a (different) gas station, try "clocking" the fuel handle @ 2 o'clock. This should give you a full tank(s.)
When it clicks off, don't try to get another drop in or you'll have gas running down the inside panel from the filler neck.
