thats why you should order at the dealer in person and literally watch the computer screen as they punch in the order and get a print out of your order to double check and have as a receipt.

I put $1000 dollars down for an 08' this past week. I sat with them and helped them punch in all the right RPO codes and got them to print my pre-order out.

$5,000.00. Kerbeck asked for 10%. I knew I wasn't backing out, and they told me will take about four weeks, so WTF. I assumed they are just a poor dealer and needed the interest for four weeks on $5,000.00 more than I did. In my mind just added to the total cost of the car.

They said they were worried about ordering cars for customers and then customers backing out. The Vette was delivered April 14, 2007 - was at the dealer within four weeks of order.

Coupe, MR, Ebony, A6, Nav- tough car to sell if I backed out.

A thou on mine. I'd put 5k down too IF the price was right AND I had a contract saying I'd get the money back IF the car was delivered damaged or with incorrect equipment etc. You know, I'd pay cash upon placing the order if I got a sweet enough deal. I may try that when I order my 08 which right now is looking like this: Coupe, Z51, special exhaust, 3LT but perhaps 4 LT, nav and stereo upgrade , chrome wheels, two tone interior red/black black exterior AND prove to me Onstar has been disabled or it's NO SALE.

I didn't have to put anything for a deposit.

BUT - read the sales contract. Usually, when a dealer has to order a car to your specifications, you're not getting a dime back if you cancel the order later.

Anything over 500 bucks and you need to find another dealer... Are they paying you interest on your earnest money?

I do not agree, I put $2K down, was going to pay cash and the dealer got a 0% loan for me

so should I complain about him having my $2K for two months without interest or do I thank him for getting me $45K for 3 years at no interest (which is now sitting in a bank collecting interest for me)

$500 check, but it was never cashed. They returned it to me when I took delivery.

This seems to be the general practice in this area. I order all my cars, and I have never posted a deposit of more than $500. None of these deposit checks have ever been cashed. They have it ready to return to me at closing.

Dave & Amy kept telling me that everyone has to put down a 10% non refundable deposit before they will order a car, no exceptions. I knew this was but they read me very well and I guess they scored points with the boss by getting a large deposit.

I was and am fully aware I could have walked, but wanted the car and if the interest on $5,000 for four weeks was so important to them ....

ok - maybe to custom order a car, it's different.
But to purchase a car that is already built - not necessary.

If you can afford a 50-60k car, what is the difference from giving them $500 or $2000 for 4 weeks. I think most dealers give it back if you cancel the order before it is turned in to BG. Hopefully you have done your research before you order and would have no reason to want to cancel. My .02

I put down 1K and was told that if I wanted to/had to back out for any reason that I would get my deposit back.

mine was 1,000 with Boardwalk Chevrolet in Redwood City when I ordered my 07.

true, there is no difference. ONLY reason i'd back out is if they didn't honor my discount. In which case, i'd rather have them taking forever to give me back my $500 deposit than a $2000 deposit when i take my business to another dealership. But i agree with u, just saying that the price is the only thing which would make me back out of the deal.

I put $1000 down and 90 days later there was no scheduled build date. Got my money back and also acquired a GMS letter. A friend got me a dealer in Michigan who would accept the letter and only required $500. Six weeks later I picked up the C6 in Bowling Green.
