i put 1,000 down on my original vette. i cancelled the order 3 weeks after i found out the dealer did not have any allocations, my money was refunded, no questions asked, my second vette ws in the dealer showroom, i cancelled that one after giving 1,000 down, problem was there prep guy buffed the paint off the hood, when he attempted to take care of some minor scratches, my last vette and the one in my garage, i put 500.00 down, and no problemo....

0$ - The dealer I ordered from did not ask for any money up front. We didn't do any paperwork until I came to get it. They didn't change the price on me when it came in, or play any games. If I ever get another Vette, I will go back to them. 
I suppose they felt like they could sell the car no problem if I backed out of the deal. As a matter of fact, one of the other salemen told me while we were BSing at the lot that someone tried to buy the car the night before I went down there as they were unloading it!
