I just changed my '08 order to include the glass top (both actually), despite the issues, and because of rave reviews. Since I'm not going 3LT, there was plenty of $$ left for options I really wanted...
depends on the color of your coupe and if a sunroof means that much to you. Honestly I don't like the black cleartop on anything but Black or Velocity Yellow. I have the dual roof package and I never use the cleartop..just doesn't look as good on white.
My vote is for the Glass Top, I like the extra light that gets let in during the day. Also, the paint on your roof usually takes the greatest beating so having something more durable is preferable to me.
I live in Arizona with often high temperatures and relentless sunshine. When it's nice outside I want the top off. When it's hot I need the shade and insulation of the solid top. For me, a glass top wasn't even a consideration.
My car was ordered with just the solid panel, but when all the solid panels started coming apart last summer I bought a Lexan top from Gene Culley.
Two weeks after it arrived, my solid panel failed w/o warning. Luckily I had the new Lexan top to use while my solid panel was being replaced and painted with the SMC panel.
Having both is a nice luxury, but not a necessity. I do have one of DSV's roof liners for my Lexan top that affords me a fourth option. It’s a must have option for Lexan top owners, especially if you live in a sunny hot locale.
Take a look from the outside:
From the inside with DSV's neat insulated roof liner:
Looks and works just like the soild panel

I had both tops on my C5. Living in an area with summertime highs of 100°+ I found the "glass" top to be too hot to use. The solar gain through that top is incredible. Even with the A/C running full blast, you can really feel the heat from the sun coming through the top. As a result, I only used the "glass" top a few months of the year.
When I ordered my C6, I went with just the solid top. No regrets.
My 2006 LMB has both tops. The body color top is STILL at the shop (coming up on 4 weeks on Friday) - Long story.
Anyway, having used both, I believe I would simply order the clear top - with the DSV interior liner, it looks just like the body top, and since mine is LMB, you really cannot tell when the clear top is on because of its blue tint. In retrospect, I would have saved the extra $$.
Have both, Use Trans. top 95%. Park in covered garage, maybe thats why I havent had problems with the heat. No problems while driving. But I wouldnt be without the Trans. Top!
I ordered my coupe with every option available except Ontar and the "glass" top. I went with only the painted top for several reasons:
I prefer the look of the painted top.
IMO the "glass" top is way overpriced.
I had "glass" t-tops on my '84 Trans Am and didn't like the heat factor. (I'm in CA.)
To be honest, when I ordered my car I didn't know about the readily-available headliner that's available for the glass top. Even had I known, I think I still would have gone with only the painted panel.
I have and use both. Solid during the hot summer months here in AL and the "glass" the rest of the time. I like the look better with the solid from the outside but I like the look from the inside better with the "glass"
For me the decision to stick with the standard top was pretty easy. I live in Texas. I think a lot of it has to do with the climate you live in. Plus I didn't want to spend extra for something that would get little or no use. If I want to look at the sun I'll take the top off. I thought a clear roof was a little silly for that. Plus having a black car with a black interior I need all the insulation I can get and I felt that having a glass top would turn my interior into a convection oven. My $.02.
I've ordered the solid top for the 08' because the clear top only looks good to me on a black car and I am tired of the interior glare during the summer.
Glass to with the Headliner from Down south vettes, best of both worlds, especailly on a black vetter b/c you can't really tell if it's glass or painted unless your up close. Love the way the glass top looks when looking out through it and when it's hot keep the suction cup headliner in place, works awesome.
