Default Cracked Windshield

Something (probably a small stone) hit my windshield while I was doing about 60 (legally) and...

I now have a nice star-burst crack with two sides extending about 4 inches each. So, I have to get my windshield replaced. I have a 2006 3LT, with the HUD and On-Star. My questions:
  1. Does anybody know the GM part number of this windshield?
  2. What are things to watch out for when getting it replaced?
  3. Anybody have any recommendations for a window speciality shop in the North Dallas/Plano/Allen/Richardson TX area?
  4. Any other suggestions/comments?

Thanks in advance.

I had the same prob with my car, called a local auto glass place and the HUD + Nav the windshield was around 1500-1600 $

I ended up calling my insurance to do a claim with them for the replacement.

My Local auto glass store new exactly what one needed to be put in as he asked directly what options I had on the car. Right after I said HUD and Nav I heard over the phone...WoW! thats some expensive glass.

This is why you have insurance. You may have to pay a small deductible, but that's normal. Just make darned sure the insurance adjuster doesn't talk you into accepting the less expensive non-HUD replacement. It would fit perfectly, but won't work as well. Then find the best auto glass shop in town. Finally, when they're done take your car to one of those touchless high pressure car washes and look closely for any leaks. They happen, even at Bowling Green.

Insist on GM replacement glass for a couple reasons.

HUD performance can be greatly reduced with aftermarket glass.

Make sure the installer is using high quality products to seal and secure the glass. Obviously, you dont want any leaks, but the windshield works with your car's airbag system and needs to remain in place during an accident or impact-some lower quality adhesives are known to fail and let the windshield pop.

The "A" pillars on the C6 are exposed, and some aftermarket glass has an awful trim molding that looks extremely cheap.

Good luck with the repair. As bad as it seems now, that God that whatever it was hit the glass and not a painted piece on your baby!

Always carry full glass coverage insurance....it doesn't cost much and there's no deductible on glass replacement.

It's too bad the crack isn't small enough to repair. I had never opted to repair a crack/chip before but I did so a year or so ago on my Vette. The repair worked well...you really have to look hard to find where they fixed it.

Make sure you get the 'HUD' specific windshield.
