That's true for those that live out near one of the coasts, but for those of us in the central portion of the county, it may end up being a pain. Especially those that live close to the dividing line of where the two disks split. Hopefully, there will be some overlap on either side of division line.
Hmm, that's a good point. Sorry, I didn't think about that.

I don't know what was done to your car BUT it couldn't have been a NAV disc upgrade UNLESS they gave you a new disc or discs. The update being referred to in this thread is for the updating of the map data disc. MAP data is on CD discs that must be inserted into the radio. The map data information is far too large to simply install into the memory of the radio.
It sounds to me like what you got was simply a "flash" update for your radio which has to do with the way it operates and or to fix a minor bug like the static problem some radios had. As an example: early '05 radios could not play MP3's BUT after installing an update to the radio's software, MP3 playback was enabled.

Yes, I have the old disc and the two new ones. He did the radio upgrade as well... no more FM static!

Hi Keyplyr - can you tell me what this radio upgrade is, and how to tell which version software I have running my NAV radio? Is there an SB out for FM static, or is this a common problem?
My car is a new 2006 I've owned for five days -- so if the radio (or ECM for that matter) should be reflashed with a new program, I'd like to have that done soon!

As the saying goes: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." If your radio sounds fine (no FM static) then I wouldn't worry about it. Your '06 already plays MP3's so you don't need that update. I would leave it alone unless there's a problem. Otherewise, there's no need to have the radio 'flashed'.

good advice quickride, thanks. I generally subscribe to that philosophy -- I guess more than anything else, I was asking because the C6 had to go in this week for repairs on the rocker panels that the dealer crushed last week, so I was gonna try and get any warranty nits taken care of at one time.
As far as I can tell, the radio sounds fine, so I'll let it go. Not 100% sure about the MP3's, but I'll drop in a disk after dinner and will find out!!
I just called GMnavdisc and They don't have any info yet on the new 08 year ver map disc and won't till 8/1 even though people are saying that their 08's already come with the new disc/discs. I wanted to find out if the new ver is updated/improved enough to warrant using one of my 2 free updates on it.
Guess we will have to depend on a forum member who has actually used both ver to fill us in on how much better the new one is, how many discs it is and if so where the dividing line is. Hint, hint!
They did confirm that the 2 free updates are good for the life of the car meaning we can wait to update to ANY future ver we deem worth it.
I'm registered on the GM Nav Disk web site too. Checked my '07 and it shows the same updated disc that I currently have and received with it. Waiting on the newest update whenever it happens..if next month, will wait obviously as I don't need two of the same.
Is anyone going to host the Nav ver.4 disc's for those of use who need a copy (strictly for backup of course). I have an 05 and GM stiffed us on the free updates . Thanks guys

Well, I live in Mississippi and my cars (both 07s dont have my street) maybe I will try an update on one of them to see if my street is listed. My luck the first few blocks will be on disk one and the second half of the street will be on disk two. The street has only been around for 4 years and has nothing but big houses on it so it may be good to keep the crooks from not being able to find it with mapquest.
Anyone wanting a backup copy of v4, please let me know. I don't mind making a backup for you, no charge. You never know about scratching them since you might have to swap discs. Thanks.
If the size of the update is only marginally larger than one disc (which seems likely, since it was on one disc before), it wouldn't be too hard for them to include the center of the country on both discs, so that the East disc would include several states west of the Mississippi, and the West disc include several states east of the Mississippi. That way you can minimize the amount of disc swapping needed.
I'm just hopeful that the update will get rid of the annoying habit of my 2005's nav system to announce that I should stay on the current road when passing exits for state routes, which happens a fair bit near where I live. I've turned off the voice because of it.

I've received several messages; this is a reply to them.
I won't be able to make you a backup copy until I receive my DVDs or someone with an 2008 let's me make an advanced copy. The backup service is only provided to those that own (or will own) a copy. Thanks.
