This info has been out there for some time now. The next "major" update will be their usual annual update, which comes out every fall. It should be "Version 4.0," which is irrelevant to GM since they use part numbers to determine whether you have the most recent one. If you have a version 3.0, my advice would be to NOT update the disc if you can help it (GM may force it on you, but I have yet to ever hear from GM about my discs - I always have to contact them). The differences between 3.0 and 4.0 will be negligible. Why burn up your "free" update (a bonus for the 2006 and 2007 owners!) when you don't have to?

Sounds about right - the 2008 cars should have the new discs from the factory (I would hope). The older ones should start to get them in a month or two.

I've been told the major update includes 2 dics...one for the east coast and one for the west.

Hopefully the fact that there are two discs means that each disc has more detail for the area, thus the reason all the data couldn't fit on a single disc.

I hope there are significant improvements to warrant having to deal with a second disc.

I'm not impressed with the detail of the v. 3 that came with my June 14th built Z.

Personally I am not totally satisfied with the screen resolution of the Nav system in my new Z06. Especially when I look at my girlfriends Lexus IS300, her NAV screen looks like a SVGA screen vs my old VGA screen. Jeez GM this is a Corvette, your flagship! You should at least give us a Navigation system with a screen with decent resolution at least equal to the Import cars!

My guess is that most users will only have to deal with one of the discs in a 2 disc set because most of us don't get too far away from home, at least not in our Corvettes. For example, I live in California so the west coast disc would be the one that would stay in my radio pretty much all the time.

One of the service guys at my dealer did the nav disc upgrade free for me last week. He said it was the latest disc from GM and the same version that comes with the 08s.

That's true for those that live out near one of the coasts, but for those of us in the central portion of the county, it may end up being a pain. Especially those that live close to the dividing line of where the two disks split. Hopefully, there will be some overlap on either side of division line.

I have not asked my dealer yet but I can't find any paper work that came with my car mentioning a free update. Is it documented some where? Also would the update be good till 09 ver as per the suggestion not to waste the update on the 08 ver?

Does anyone know exactly where the dividing line between the east/west versions is?

Thanks.

I can see it now. You are driving happily down the road toward the Mississippi River top down, wind blowing through your hair, a nice set up tunes caressing your ears and all of a sudden you hear from the Nav a pleasant female voice. "Please pull over now and eject disk one of two, bing-bing. Please insert disk two of two now and press 'I agree' bing-bing" Please renter your destination now... Are you still there?"

I didn't have a free update coupon, or whatever... I just went to the service dept at my dealer, made some small talk and asked one of the service techs if he had a couple minutes to do it. No mention of a charge was offered, none given.

What exactly did the tech do? Give you a new set of disks, upload or flash something to your Nav system?

Thanks

That could be a big problem for someone like me who lives 15 miles from the Mississippi river.
