Default Another Rant on Quality

OK so today I am detailing my car. I open the hatch to clean the underside of what looks like water spots. I use Windex on a paper towel and proceed to wipe down. I notice that there seems to be a lot of dirt on my paper towel. That's funny I think to myself this area gets really dirty. So I go over it again. Then I realize, that's not dirt. It's paint and it's coming off!!! What was once a smooth finish looks like it has more water spots and smudges. Yesterday I posted about the carpet starting to sag along the rear axle. WTF GM?? BTW, my car was built on a Friday. It's been almost 3 months of ownership now, and the honeymoon is about over because these little annoyances are starting to add up....

Sorry to hear that.... but get used to it....
Ive lost count of the times my car has been back to the dealer starting with a horn blowing that I couldnt stop unless I disconnected the battery...then had to drive it 35 miles to the dealr with the horn blowing (never waved at so many people) to an AC that was blowing cold air on the driver side and heat on the passenger when both were set to 72 to a seatblet that wouldnt latch to a rear end that sounded like it was coming to pieces when put in reverse to a window that wouldnt go up to squeeling brakes, and the list goes on and on....
next vehicle.......A Lexus!

Wow, these sort of issues make me question my decision to order a 2008 C6. Am I buying a POS with a big motor???

For every horror story about multiple problems, there are dozens and dozens of cars that are problem free. Don't let potential problems keep you from buying a car. There are no pefect cars out there. That's why they come with a warranty.

I can say personally that I'm at 2 months of ownership and 3,400 perfect miles.

I hate to hear about the multiple problems though. I am sure I too would be very discouraged about the car if I was experiencing so many issues.

No. The Corvette has one of the highest customer satisfaction ratings of any car. Sure, some folks have had more than their fair share of problems...happens with any brand. The fact is people are much more likely to complain about a problem on a forum than simply post, "Another month of smiles with my Vette."

Is the Vette perfect? No. Is it seriously flawed? No. Like most new cars, it is far superior to cars produced just 10 years ago. The Corvette is a great vehicle, enjoyed by many in a huge variety of ways from showing/cruising to racing. The new warranty should help put your mind at ease; it would not have been added if GM thought the car would have major problems within the 5 year/100,000 mile period. Enjoy your 2008 model when it arrives, you are getting the latest and greatest.

All I can say is if you are meticulous like I am.......I'd think twice. To some people it may sound like I am nit-picking and I can understand that opinion. But when you spend $40K for a car, you have a right to be picky. The problem I have with going back to the dealer is mine is 75 miles away. There is a Chevy dealer where I live but they are small-time and I honestly don't know what there service is like or if they have a competent Corvette specialist. Guess I'll post that thread in regional. Good luck with your decision.

It's been discussed on the forum before and I agree, the plastic material under the rear hatch is 'tricky' to deal with....I've experienced it myself. I had good results wiping it down with 303 Aerospace Protectant and I think I waited quite a while before I buffed it a bit.

It’s always sad to hear of someone having so many problems when the vast majority of C6’s are so satisfying to their owner’s....my 2005 included (it's been a great car in every respect).

If I was as disappointed in the C6 as you both are, I'd be down at the Lexus dealership today! I think they're open.

Good luck. I hope things improve for you.

I was considering an A8 but read way too many horror stories, particularly regarding corporate Audi's arrogance and utter unresponsiveness. There's no correlation between sticker price and reliability.

My Z06 hasn't darkened the doors of the dealership since delivery...and I'm fussy. 8,500 miles of no problems at all.

Good for all those that haven't experienced problems but to those that have, the degree of multiple problems can not be justified.

With all due respect, you're gonna go buy a Lex to replace your Vette? Ok, but it shure doesn't seem like apples to apples to me.

Yeah, I was one of those idiots. JD Powers sends you the survey about a month after you get the car. Even THEN I thought that was odd. Gave it rave reviews.

I wouldn't have if they had sent it a year or two into ownership.

My biggest problems have all been electrical. I don't know what GM's problem is with electrical, but all of my cars have had bugs.

But I've had variations of almost all the majors.

Seat rock 2000 and 2002 - still have that.
Gas guage failure in my 2000.
Column lock in my 2002.
Charge fault in my 2002.
Passenger door lock not working intermittently in the 2002 as well as the driver door lock not working sometimes.
2005 cruise control wouldn't lock in.
2005 clutch not right.
2002 Seat tearing at seams in several places.

Don't get me wrong. I love my 2002 and it is a BLAST to drive, but the quality could have been LOTS better.

The J.D. Powers survey you got within 30 days was for initial customer satisfaction, which addresses build quality. Other surveys are done for overall ownership satisfaction.
