The link shows how many 2LT/3LT cars were produced but I didn't see where the 1Lt numbers were. I think I might have missed it somewhere. Maybe it wasn't worth the ink to write it with.
My 06 A6 ordered with 2LT, Monterey Red & cashmire interior. That's all folks! If I could afford an 08 I'd just get the Z51, A6 & 2LT. I had a 99 loaded up, but some options on the new ones are IMO dumb. Like Nav systems on a car I only drive for pleasure? Or super leather packages, etc . I buy Corvette's for their performance. If I wanted all that "luxury" crap, I'd get a Caddy.
...and all the cowhide in the 4LT is liable to get the car picketed by some animal rights groups...
I just don't forsee the cow getting put on the endangered species list. With all the cows that get slaughtered for America's beef supply, we might as well be using the hides for something.

. . . which is why leather couches are cheaper than cloth upholstered versions. I think you are on to something.

If I were buying a car for pure performance. It wouldn't be a Corvette. It would be a Backdraft Cobra with a 427 Roush in it. No frills just performance.
I get a kick out of guys that buy "rare" current production cars thinking they are going to make a killing on resale. They are rare because the vast majority of the buyers don't want it. A "beer can will always be a beer can".
My '07 3LT Monterey Red / Cashmere convertible has everything - and that silver "basic" car in the opening post looks just as nice, performs just as well (maybe a tiny bit better), and will be very close in value as the years go by. It may be worth a little bit less due to its lack of equipment, or a little bit more due to its rarity - but not enough to make much difference, IMHO. I'm sure it cost quite a bit less to purchase than mine did, and if its owner enjoys it, it was a great buy. Myself, I would really miss all the "extras" my car has.
All Corvettes are somewhat "collectible" in comparison to your garden-variety Chevys, Fords and Toyotas . . . even the least-desireable Corvettes are actively pursued and preserved. That will always be true, and both his Corvette and mine will be no exception. They aren't Duesenbergs, but they aren't Hyundais either.

I bought a convertible 2LT, and the ONLY option on it is R8C. The exterior is machine silver (1636 verts, or 14.7% of all verts) with the Cobalt Red interior (422 verts). But some of that red had to go into white cars, black cars, and even some red (overkill) cars. So a silver over red vert is going to be pretty rare.
But wait, there's more. 94.4% of 2006 convertibles were specified as 3LT cars and only 5.6% or 620 were base 2LT units like mine. More rarity ! And of all the verts, only 239 were equipped with the base silver painted wheels. And some of those had to be on 3LT's that were gonna get aftermarket wheels, or a chrome wheel exchange, or were just ordered by someone who wanted the 3LT package but not the blingier (or cloudier polished) wheels.
My '06 3LT vert is silver over red, with base wheels (ZO6 repros on it now, but still have the wheels), F55, and manual top. so I guess somewhat rare?
May I offer an uneducated piece of advice?
DO NOT buy any Corvette stripped or loaded and think for one minute you'll ever get a good return on your purchase.
You buy a super rare optioned model, hardly drive it and it is brand new in the wrapper after 20 years. What do you think it's worth?
I can tell you that if you took the $50,000 purchase cost and had a compound interest return of a conservative interest rate of 6% on a investment it would be worth around $160,000. You didn't have maintenance or insurance costs to boot.
I have no illusions that my C6 will be worth any more or any less than the next one in comparable condition.
I do know one thing-I will enjoy it while I got it!!

For those who read too quickly, I had quotes around "rare", and used one , one , and one to indicate how un-serious my post was. I agree, for investment purposes, visit www.Vanguard.com.
