Is the Vert really worth 9,000 more (in my case) than a coupe. You still can take the top of the coupe which is nice. Im just not sure if the vert style looks better than coupe. And would you rather have a 08 coupe over a 06 vert. I don't know what to do 0% percent on the 2006-Vert. I am buying GMS either way-HELP!!! I have 5 Vettes all have been Verts. I dig verts, style! A lots of you's think the other way, these rides are not cheap so what do you say, like the vert look better or the coupe better, hey the coupe could save me some big $$$...
If you've been accustomed to verts, you'd better take a coupe out for a long drive. They are different. I have a coupe and am very happy, but the top panel is not real light and easy to take off and put on.
Secondly, with the coupe top panel off and stowed, cargo space is nearly non-existent. With a top down vert, you still have that trunk - ah, such as it is.
I went from an '04 coupe to my '07 vert. I really don't think that I could go back to the coupe. Almost feels like 2 different cars (excluding the C5 and C6 comparison).
I had the same decision to make. I went with the new coupe. I had a c4 vert for ten years and the top was up 90% of the time. I'm on the other coast though. Weather not very nice here for verts except for a short time in the fall. The performance of the new Ls3 pushed me to the coupe. I also had a 04z06 for three years though and every once in awhile wished the top came off. I ordered the dual roof package to be able to mix things up a bit. I quess I'll see how I like it. I think it will be fine for me. Also I like the lines of the coupe, not to mention it's more secure than a vert.
My daily driver was an MB SL500 - - sort of the best of both worlds with a hard top and convertible. I found that I favored the more enclosed feeling that the coupe offers . . .but enjoyed taking off the top in mild weather.
We also ended up getting a transparent top which has proven to be great in the winter time here .. but feels like an ant under a magnifying glass in the summer heat!
As the others have written- it's a personal decision that nobody else can answer for you - - -hopefully, you can rent a coupe or vert for a weekend someplace and make the decision that's best for you.
It depends on your financial situation or how much you want to allocate towards it vs how much you get out of it and will use it.
You decide. The vert is more fun but aside from spring and fall it's just too humid or too cold around here and I like the lines of the coupe, and the security. I actually think the top down coupe looks cool and is fun, it's just so much more work to move it and it will be a lot LOT less often you will take the top off. But it is pretty crazy to pay 9k more for a manual roof, its 12k more for an auto roof. I'd buy used.... a 2006 you can get for around 43k as a 'vert. And there's not much difference between '08 and '06 unless you care about 30-36 hp. But, I'd imagine your interested in the 0% financing....
Some people just really like verts so IMO if you're one of those folks you should get one no matter the extra cost.
I prefer coupes for various reasons: 1/ climate where I live 2/ security
3/ don't like roof line appearance in vert with top up ( with the top down I think the C6 vert looks great ) 3/ don't like hot sun beating down on me with top down 4/ less interior noise. 5/ don't like verts in bad weather which we have plenty of here....
It's like red vettes. Many people must have red. So they need to get red. People who need a vert should get a vert. Simple.
Worth more? Intrinsically, based on what it costs to produce coupe vs vert? NO! The vert , IMO, is overpriced in relationship to the coupe 'cause GM knows they can get it. I doubt it costs much more to produce a vert than coupe and certainly not nine grand more.
But, it you gotta have a vert you pay it regardless. I'm glad I don't have to have one.
Having said all this I once owned a '67 Camaro vert. I LOVED driving it on nice warm evenings an hour of so prior to sunset when the sun was low and the air cooling down some. It could be pure pleasure. But out at noon with the sun directly overhead on a hot day? Nope thank you.
I wouldn't have anything but a convertble - there's nothing like it. And, a coupe with the top removed isn't even close. Get the convertible and be happy. You know you want to - you're just looking for someone to talk you out of it!
You can lift the top off the coupe, but the rest of the roof and that expanse of rear glass remain. It's pretty much a glorified sun roof. Look in your rear view mirror...it's still a coupe. Not that that's bad...but it's not open air motoring.
In addition, the C6 is a little too tall for its width. The coupe's big bubble of rear glass and roofline magnifies this. The vert, with the top down, visually lowers the vehicle and brings it back into proportion
I will say the targa top of the coupe does not provide the true open-air experience of the convertible. That said, I bought the coupe and not because it was less expensive.
I prefer the lines of the coupe versus the lines of the vert. I value the larger cargo space afforded by the coupe. I appreciate the benefits of the additional insulation provided by the solid top. The coupe provides additional protection in the unlikely event of a roll-over. I also like that I can run on a road course without the necessity of adding a full cage roll bar. Lastly, I love driving topless (and I look forward to the coming winter when I'll be able to remove the top more often).
