I recently bought a truck from a local dealership. As part of that deal I got a third party security system for it. They offered to install said system onto my Vette as well, for a discounted price.
After doing research, they told me that the Vette was not compatible with this security system. They then offered to install the Lojack system onto my vehicle at no additional cost.
For a car that is currently stored outdoors in N. CA, and soon moving to North Dakota, do you think I should press for the Lojack install or ask for my money back on the security system, which would net me about $580 back?
Well, first of all,do not put LOJACK in the vette!Afew guys have and ended up removing it because it killed the battery over and over.Next, you should check w/N.DAKOTA police to see if they have ever even heard of LOJACK and if they have the hardware to retrieve your car etc...

wtf,, i have had it since mar of this year and no problems with the battery(stock), so what gives?
Well, you might be the exception. There were several posts on here last year about guys having problems w/lojack.Maybe they had bad installs or something.Batteries kept going dead ,etc.
I am willing to bet those reporting the "battery drain" problems were either C5 owners or they drove their corvette infrequently. The battery on a corvette will drain naturally when not in use , with or without lojack installed. There are many after market products available to remedy this condition.
As far as lojack coverage -- North Dakota is currently not covered. here is link to the current coverage areas.

If someone wants your car bad enough, it will be gone alarm or no alarm.

Oh so true -- you will not prevent the taking.. if someone wants your Corvette bad enough, they will get it.... but the harder you make it for a thief, the less likely they will target your Corvette.
but remember-- Lojack's purpose is to aid in the return not to stop the intial theft.

I wonder if they can install Lojack on a broom ? My ex wife keeps b*tching about how every time she leaves her broom outside a store, someone walks off with it .......................
This may be a totally dumb question, and missing the obvious, but if you have OnStar do you really need Lojack? Can't OnStar track your vehicle, although it isn't tied to the local police?
Lojack was installed on mine when I purchased it, the car has sat 4 weeks without being started and had NO issues with dead battery.
Check with your local police to see if its trackable in your area. Lojack also prints it on their literatrue if I remember right, for instance the major areas where I live is Clark County which relates to Las Vegas.
Depending on the system you get you could have the vehicle moving alert package which notifies you if the vehicle is moved. This precludes you having to find out your car is stolen before its in the system.
Another thought is that if you rely on Onstar then you have to pay monthly fees unlike Lojack, also theives might have an easier time disabling Lojack vs Onstar.
If nothing else you might get an insurance break for having it on your car.

Yes, OnStar can help locate your car in the event its stolen. I know a guy who had his Suburban stolen a few years back....OnStar pretty much pinpointed its location for the police and the cops got the vehicle and the thieves.

North Dakota does not have LoJack.
LoJack can be installed in approximately 7 locations on the C6. If the +12v is wired into a circuit which routes to the battery (no controllers on the circuit), you should be OK. If the LoJack is wired into a circuit controlled by a microprocessor, it may cause the processor not to go into the sleep mode and may cause a high parasitic load the battery.
I had LoJack installed by the dealer when I purchased the car. If I leave the car in the garage for a week or more with out a tender, the battery will be dead.
I called Lojack to ask if they can electronically check the system in my car to see if it is functioning properly, and was told no. If I wanted to know if their Lojack was still working, I could schedule an appointment and a tech would come to my house. Cost at that time was $ 69.00. So bottom line is, I have a $695.00 security system that I don't know if it's working or not.

If someone steals my car, I don't want it or the carcass or the parts back, thats why I wouldn't consider Lojack[/QUOTE]
You make an excellent point. Depending on how long the bad guys have my car, I may not want it back. If they haven't already started to strip it down, ya just don't know how much they absued the engine, tranny, etc. You may get it back with alot of interior/exterior damage. I don't want the insurance company to try to fix it and put it all back together again, it will never feel right again and most likely will start developing problems.
I'll do everything in my power to keep them from taking it, but not sure I want it back if they do.
Check into Guidepoint also. It is a GPS based system and works like LoJack without the geographical limitations. It does provide automatic notification of movement and has no monthly service charge.
Another issue with OnStar and its theft revovery, OnStar has no way of knowing your vehicle is stolen until you discover it. Then it's a matter of hoping the thief hasn't already removed the system...
