I usually shoot a white or light gray primer under most everything except black or very dark colors. The spray can you have maybe a single stage with a clear binder. I usually shoot a clearcoat over metallics even if the spray can has a clear binder for added depth. What are you painting? Plastic, metal?
Torch,

Well for now just a plastic front license plate holder. I think the ones they have a Pep Boys is black, so what would you suggest as a primer? I bought the spray can from GM, so I'm assuming its correct... Maybe Jetstream will chime in on what he did for his rear license plate holder..

Chris, thats for the pointer on the paint. I did see that also and made me wonder why so much for JSB paint..

Torch,
I'm not bitchin about the $750 for the JSB... That cost was a non issue for me.. The car is awesome in JSB..

I also bought a 5oz can of JSB, but now wonder if there's more I need to buy. From other posts it sure looks that way... Does someone have information on what is really needed and what the costs are??

Here's a thought; maybe a can a clear coat to go with that can of JSB and maybe they can be sprayed on together(with a time delay) as with a base coat/clear coat application process between the the two paints to come out better looking or more correct? Food for thought/my .02 cents.....

from what I understand the 5oz can is the mid coat and to actually paint a panel you'd need base mid and clear coats which is way too expensive. The base is what's so high. You can paint small things with the 5oz and it'll look ok.

Plasticote and Krylon both make spray paints with adhesion promoters for plastics. I would wait until the base sets up fully but within the directed recoat time frame to ensure the JSB spray paint does not lift the base coat. I usually use Krylon Fusion flat white as a base coat on plastics when shooting lighter colors with Krylon Clear over the top of the color coat. The secret is many light coats vs a few heavy ones. Lighter coats minimize lifting, sags, runs and add depth. Take your time and shoot them on a warm day if possible.
