two quick ?s
I alread replaced the rear 5 1/4 with BA S55's and the center (dash) with a BA S35. I am now ready to tackel the doors.
#1 Do I need the "door panel removal tool" to take off the door panels or do I just pull really hard to remove the "finned" plastic retaining bolts?
#2 I already replaced the center speaker, I heard removing it gives true stereo sound to the system. Should I keep it for more surround sound or remove it for left/right stereo?

If you can find a hard plastic pry tool, that will work as well.
I disconnected the center speaker and was actually amazed at the nice "separation" that resulted. You might want to listen to it both ways and decide which one you like best.
I used a big flat tip screw driver and started from the underneath of the door (there is an obvious notch), once I pried the first few door pins I just pulled on the door and the rest came out, the hardest part was putting the door panel back on as the clips on the top are the tricky part.
I did all 3 speakers so I cant comment on the separation of sound.

Here are two threads that are quite helpful - in case you need to refer to them:
LMB 4 ME, is there a noticeable better sound by upgrading the rears? I ask because I've read here that the rear signal is compromised so much that some say any hardware upgrade would be in vain.
Before you start prying with either a panel tool or a screwdriver, wrap the shaft with a towel around the pivot point to keep it from scratching the door.

You GOTIT GOTA!
KeyPlyr: Yes I did notice not only more sound coming from the rears (the BA S55s are more efficient then the Bose) but also cleaner midrange. The difference is not big but its there. If you have an 07/08 you will hear a bigger difference because the 07/08 amp puts out more power to the rear speakers. Also if you decide to upgrade the amp you will hear a dramatic difference with the Bostons. People say the "best bang for the buck" is doing the 3 1/2 inch doors with BA S35's. One word of caution, for me replacing the rears was a PITA!

And remember to first remove the torx screws at the top of the cubby.
If you ever need a small, pronged pry tool (which comes in handy for many C6 projects) they can be bought inexpensively at AutoZone. At least that's where I got mine.
As an aside, if you ever need a great DIY on a new stereo install....this thread is one of the best I've ever seen.

yes I forgot to include that I had the shaft wrapped in blue painter tape.
For those that have replaced them...I'm sure this doesn't get rid of the bose hiss, but how is the hiss with the BA35s? Does it make the hiss less (or worse, more) noticable?
