Your lucky that the cat isn't using your top as a scratching post. This can happen with a cover as well on the side of the car. I have used moth ***** and they worked pretty well. The suggestions with traps scaring the cat would probably work, but do you want to disable traps every time you drive? Use cardboard or a rubber mat and put duct tape on with the sticky side up. The cat won't like this, but could come back when you stop. A trap and animal control would clue in the owner, but they may be &*%holes. Good Luck.
HAD the same problem and got the scat mat. It uses static to dissuade the kitties. Its run by a 9 volt battery and has 3 levels of persuasion. I used it on top of my car cover rotating to different areas and now they dont go near the car. Just google scat mat and order one.
I've seen my cat jump on the roof via way of the driver's door window trim. The rear claws don't hook up very well and it does a number on the paint. I've also found exit wounds on my hood from the cat's dismount towards the front of the car. Cat's don't like the unstable, freshly waxed surface. Once they start sliding, they panic.
Had a cat back when I had an E-type Jag. Same deal....cat liked to get into the garage & nap in the car. Found scratches in the paint from her climbing in....kept the big cat (the Jag) for many years...not the little cat....long gone! Check your paint for scratches...
Sometimes mothballs scattered around the perimeter of the car will deter cats.
As for the guy complaining about the antifreeze killing his kitty, why doesn't he keep the damn cat out of someone else's garage? Cat owners in my neighborhood seem unconcerned that their cats roam freely and damage other folks' vehicles and property. Legally, animal owners are responsible for damage caused by their pets.
It gets worse when the save the cats coalition starts making it personal.
Luckily that hasn't happened....yet.
If this is still on the front page come 7pm tonight.....get ready......the fireworks are gonna start. I am not proud to state I have taken part in such fiascoes in the past and will do my best to refrain from future participation............but I can't make any promises.

Save the poor, poor kitties! We should all adopt 30-40 stray cats C6 in the garage or not! We should make our homes their home, and cater to their every whim and need. Besides they taste just like chicken!(I hear)
This ***** cat problem is mild compared to putting one in the White House in 2008. Maybe if she makes it we could convince her to keep all the cats in a cat house and not on top of vert 'vetts.
If it were me this thread would be titled "I HAD a ***** cat problem " If you like your cat that much there really isn't any "nice" things to do to keep them off.
Sorry everyone. I guess I should have done a better search before asking. I did not know it was one of those thread destroying topics. Remember I'm only a newby. I will learn with enough time.
Flame on.
ME262,
Sometimes on the forum we all have to have a little FUN with serious topic from members. There have been some good suggestions for your situation. Do as you wish, but there should be a humane solution to this. My neighbor's dog has an unhealthy attraction to my car's tires. Any suggestions?
I keep a small cup of mothballs on the hood, roof, and rear hatch (each sitting on top of a microfiber cloth). No more cats.
Mothballs are good for keeping lots of critters at bay. For example, a few around the garbage cans keep the neighbors' dogs out of the trash too.
