Since winter has set in, I am finding cats sleeping on my Vert top. I guess it's warm on soft. Obviously it's not good for it. Has anyone had this problem and come up with a solution? I do not want to use a cover because it's a hassle.
When I had my 90 Vert and parked it in the garage our cat loved sleeping on the black top (white cat of course). We didn't let the cat in the garage often, but every chance he got, there he was.
I used a beach towel on the roof for a while (since it was inside, the wind didn't blow it off). Ended up covering the car most of the time.
Used a lint roller to remove the hair when needed.
Also didn't like the foot prints sliding down the windshield.
Cat is gone and so is the 90 Vert (loved them both).
I see you said cats in the plural(more than one). This is going to be hard to stop. Are they your cats? If not, a cover may be your only choice, but you may in time have a problem with your top sagging from the cats weight. Never heard of a problem like yours. Good luck keeping them off your vert's top.
I've seen my cat jump on the roof via way of the driver's door window trim. The rear claws don't hook up very well and it does a number on the paint. I've also found exit wounds on my hood from the cat's dismount towards the front of the car. Cat's don't like the unstable, freshly waxed surface. Once they start sliding, they panic.
Right now I have the plastic top on the vet. I have the the hard top wraped in a soft blanket and covered and under the bed. I have a large male cat that thinks this is his new bed. I've used a spray bottle with water, amoung other things, but nothing works.
It must be something in the roof materal that they like. If you find a way to keep them out, let me know.
They make a sour apple spray to keep cats off of stuff. With our cats we only had to spray it once (our electronics cabinet for our family room) and they stayed away for good.
If I remember correctly it was about $10 here at a small pet store for a good sized bottle. It said it was safe on all surfaces but before I sprayed it on my rack I tested it on the underside
There is NO way I'd let a cat sleep on the 'Vette......I know that they make sprays to keep cats off of furniture....most are mildy citrus based, which should not hurt your top....the other option is to cover your car......the weight of the cat on your top is not the worry that their claws on your doors and fenders should be......best of luck!!
Beach towel over the top.
Ya might want to also cover the hood and the trunk while
the training is taking place. The cat is gonna jump some
unknown direction ...
Set 2 mouse traps on the beach towel.
Cover the mouse traps with newspaper.
When the cat jumps on the top and triggers the mouse trap(s)
the snap of the mouse trap under the newspaper is loud and causes the newspaper to jump. Startles the cat and it jumps off.
Repeat are required to train the cat to go somewhere else.
