black vs Machine silver
The prep by the dealer shouldn't be a factor either. Unless you want a museum piece instead of a car that is. My opinion is that if you're actually going to use the car and ever park it anywhere it will eventually get a scratch or nick on it somewhere.I ended up with black which is really nice looking when clean, but doesn't stay that way very long. It does show dirt and dust but that is usually only noticeable from close up. It still looks great rolling down the highway!
Your question about what to use to keep it shiny will have a lot of answers. Zaino seems to be very popular around here. I use Meguiar's NXT myself. It is very easy to apply. There is now an NXT 2 on the market that is supposed to last longer. Zaino has more steps to the application but I'll let some of the Zaino users talk about that.

Here's a couple of pics Rick sent me.
My silver looks clean even after it rains, while the black cars around me at work look horrible. Silver hides scratches also. Oh, and black gets hot, a lot hotter than other colors. But again, the C6 in black looks really good. I think the silver looks sharp, but needs chrome wheels or something to make it stand out a little bit. Silver can look dull to some.
Oh, and I vote for Rejex. Easiest thing I've ever used and this stuff lasts. Zaino is big on here and lots of other forums, but I've never tried it. Seems like a lot of work to me, but could be wrong.

If you love to wash and maintain the finish on your car all the time, then Black is it. I have owned both and Love the Silver! A nice Chrome wheel sets off the silver vette. Still waiting for my chrome!
Black looks great when its well cared for and free of scratches. But thats just it, it seems to scratch, or show fine scratches more than any other color out there. And once that happens, it looks terrible. And those scratches can be very difficult to get out.
Silver probably shows scratches least of all except for white, but silver does not "pop" like black or some of the other colors when waxes/polished.

Here is another board members MS and my Black together

Here is my Black and it is dirty as it had just rained.
Granted the C6 silver is not the sharpest silver around but with frequent coats of Zaino or Rejex looks sharp.
I started with Zaino and then moved to Rejex. Three to four coats per year do the trick for me.
Black- spending lots and lots of time trying to keep it clean and looking good.
Silver- wondering when was the last time I spent a lot of time cleaning it.
