Default Wrong gas

Last week I accidently put regular gas in my car.I had about 3 gals. in the tank when I filled up.Well, much to my surprise my car ran just as good on the regular as it does on Ethyl.I thought the power would suffer, but it didn't.It didn't ping either.Has anyone else put regular in their car and had similar results?Oh,I filled my car up this week with Ethyl and it runs trhe same.

No problem. I've run a few tanks of regular as a test and didn't notice any difference in normal road driving. If you are racing it could be a problem under hard acceleration. Just take it easy for a while to avoid any pinging. GM says it is OK to run 87 all the time, it just runs at a lower power.

The computer is suppose to adjust for this. You loose some horse power. I accidently put regular in the C5 I use to own and every light on the dash came on until 3 tanks full later

I also put regular in my "66" 427, 515 hp L-88 Vette and it sounded like a diesel. Had to drain the tank

No problem --- your ECM will derate engine control performance parameters to account for lower octane level. That is unless you have a C6 Z06 --- then it's bad news and you need to get the lower octane gas out of the system before driving.

If you're just putting around town, you wont notice any difference.

I filled up at a station last week and the pump selected regular gas even though I hit the supreme button. I did not realize it until I had put 10 gallons in. I stopped and tried it again, making sure I hit the correct button and it still gave me regular.

I ran it through and the car did not seem to mind.

Hertz filled our '08 rental vette with 87, and it pinged until I put 3/4 tank of 91 in it. You guys filling with regular must be deaf. The car was brand new (2 miles on the clock, so no carbon in the combustion chambers) and we were pretty gentle with it for the first 500 miles. Temps were about 55F.

I can't imagine how one car pings on 87 and the others don't. I also can't imagine how folks can spend so much money on a car and then skimp by $5 on a fill-up. Y'all must be leasing.

I use 91 in CA.

Chervon most of the time.

Putting in 87 may not be the best but will work and harm.

Dealer filled mine with 87 or 89 in KC and I averaged 27mpg back home to Cleveland--no pinging. I use 89-93 usually.

My wife filled ours with 87 octane with 10% ETHANOL.I thought it would be a nightmare, but I can't see a bit of differance. Am I going to trust her to fuel up again? NO!
