No matter what year you drive, it is a classic and was and still is for it's time. Unfortunately everything gets old and changes. I guess that's why you see a lot of older me with young women in retirement age.
how does it feel to be able to afford a C6 and scoff at us lowly C3 owners?
I had 4 C3's ( 73,73, 75 & 78). . .restored the last one 2 years ago and sold it to buy the C6 - - - I'm trying to figure out how to sneak another one into the garage so my better half won't notice it under the cover in the corner . . .
1) Don't envy anyone. Envy never got anyone anywhere in life.
2) Unless your name is Bill Gates, someone else in the USA will ALWAYS have more buying power (money) than you do. Forget about trying to afford what others can afford. It's a slippery slope. "It must be nice to own a C6" - turns into "it must be nice to own a Z06" - turns into "it must be nice to own a ZR1" - turns into "it must be nice to own two Corvettes" - turns into "it must be nice to own 10 Corvettes"... forget it. Buy what you want, if you can. And, if you can't, don't worry about it.
3) The only *productive* version of this type of thought is if your "envy" turns into an internal drive to go out and accomplish more, work harder, be more innovative, etc. But, if you're just drooling over something you can't have, and it doesn't change anything else, you're on the wrong path.
Personally, to respond to the initial thread regarding having a C3 instead of a C6... I have both a C3 (1972) and a C6 (2005). (You can view my pictures in the link to the left.) If I was forced to give one up, it would definitely be the C6. Don't get me wrong, obviously the C6 is a superior car in technology and performance. But, it can't match the mystique value of the C3. Plus, in 4 years, I'll have a 7 year old C6 (nice, but, how special is that?)... but in 4 years, I'll have a 40 year old C3 (definitely special).
I'd love to have at least one of each of the generations of Corvettes, but I can't afford that, but I don't say "it must be nice..." to those who can.
I have both, I 'll probably die w/ my '72 Targa Blue Roadster, but I'll probably die in my C6. Picking it up Friday from tuner w/ 450 rwhp. Kidding aside, I've had my C3 since I was 21, that's 22 years ago, & I am waiting for the "right time" to restore it to it's original majesty, but I'll never get rid of it. My C6 on the other hand is expendable, don't get me wrong, I love it, but if the C7 improves as much as the C6 did, once they're out my C6 is gone. Old Corvettes are FOREVER!
I think there should be a requirement at all dealerships to explain the wave to all new Corvette owners. The wave isn't required but is a tradition that's part of our heritage. Many don't seem to understand it.
No scoffing at C3's here (or any vette for that matter). I have owned quite a few C3's in the past. Several C4's, which I still own also with the C6.
But my most favorite car...yep a '78 Pace Car. I think because I was barely out of high school then and wanted one so bad but couldn't afford it then. That is the car that really started this bad habit! LOL
I had 2 C1's and 2 C2's, and I've been envying every Vette I've seen for the last 34 yrs. I finally bought my 07' C6, last June and feel that I've come back to the fold. I only wish I had my C1's and C2's back, plus every generation in between. Of course, I know that's a pipe dream, but, I do love every one of them. I'm very happy with my C6 and admire those who keep all those Vettes rolling.
