I like the Eckler's because they are thicker to give more clearance and are made of a urathane material which should prevent slipage and is more of a cushion than the other metal pucks.
Just finished DIY pucks. I could not find one retailer in all San Diego who actually sold hockey pucks, so I was gonna get 'em off *bay until this young gal moved in next door. She's from a cold weather state and plays hockey at a rink here somewhere. I asked her and she brought me 8 pucks. Nothing like getting "pucked" by the girl next door
I also prefer the rectangular, BMW pucks but I would never leave them installed 24/7. If my car ever breaks down I will need to remove the jacking pucks in order for the tow truck to utilize the oval frame slots (to winch the car onto the flatbed). If my car breaks down I'm already PO'd...I don't want to be lying in the rain and mud; alongside a busy, dangerous freeway; in the dark; trying to remove my jacking pucks before the tow truck arrives. I install my jacking pucks as needed and remove them immediately afterwards. I've also heard of someone damaging their car when the jacking pucks scraped-on and got hung-up a speed bump. IMO put them on when you need to and take them off when you're done.
I think you're making this a bigger deal than it is. I can reach under (just bending my knees) and remove the round BMW pucks, they don't screw in, they just pop straight in. I takes no more than about 10 seconds each. By leaving them there, I always have them and know where they are. I use them in place a lot more than having to worry about the rare instance I need a tow and when need be, can remove them at a moments notice.
I put the round BMW ones on my FRC. Also keep an electric sissor jack along with a tire plug kit in the trunk. From experience, it all works well together!
When I first got the Vette I also read comments CF and the links to the vendors. The quality is excellent and it's really easy to install and remove. No need to leave them on the car and hassle with them it the car needs to be flat bedded.
i have BMW plastic pucks. installed on the car at 1 mile where they remain. hope they never have to be used. they are about 3/8 lower than the frame. you don't see them at all. $30+- for all 4.

You make a great point about the flatbed! This being said, is this the preferred method to pull up onto a flatbed. It would seem to me that would be the best way no doubt. I wonder if a tow truck coming to pick up a car to haul it back to a dealer would actually do it that way, especially if one weren't watching. I wonder what GM's procedure is for this situation? Has anyone see it documented somewhere? If may be in the manual for all I know, I just haven't looked.

I leave my $20 round BMW pucks installed also. I can pop them out in 5 seconds with my pocket knife. Of course I put my car on the lift several times a week just to clean it so I could be insane.

Same for me...I leave mine installed all the time so I don't have to remember to take them out when I have the car lifted...plus water and debris doesn't get up inside the holes...

I had hockey pucks with eye bolts purchased from *bay and got rid of them as they never could hold on securely twisting the eyelets in those holes. I got those JP pads from Ecklers and now they fit very securely. I also like the urathane material better than the Elite metal pads.
