This way, I dont have anything plugged in to an electrical outlet. My garage has windows in the actual garage door, plenty of sunlight to keep a small charge going.
Just bought a Schumacker SE 5212A from a pawn shop. It's like brand new and I paid $28.00 for it! New MSRP $86.00. Works perfectly and tricle charges the batt with auto shut off/on.
I Live in the Norhteast and the my car can seat for weeks in the winter, should I be using a battery tender, if so any idea which one is best?
Actually if it is going to sit for weeks or months at a time, you may just want to disconnect the negative battery cable and it doesn't cost you anything.

Just go to Wal*Mart and pick up their Schumacker fully automatic Battery Charger, model SEM-1562A. It has 6 & 12 Volt charging capabilities. It will not over charge and maintains a Float charge once the battery is fully charged. I've been using their charger for years and have never experienced any problems. I believe Wal*Mart has them for $18.00

Thats what I use have 2 of them. I paid $16 each a few years ago.
One is on my boat battery for 7 months.
I also live in the northeast and have a 07 C6. The car has been siiting in my garage for months and I just went to start it last weekend. Unfortunately it was totally dead to the point where I had to climb in through the hatch to release the door and hood. Last year I was able to start the car a couple of times but that did not happen this year. I am curious as to what is draining the battery and if I have damaged it by letting it drain?

I think you can open the hatch and just pull the release 'tab' to open the door...you don't have to climb through. This is from my owner's manual:
From outside the vehicle, use the door release tab
located on the carpet inside the trunk on the driver’s side
of the vehicle. Pull the tab to unlock and unlatch the
driver’s door.
I bought the Ctek tender with the cig lighter adapter.. this is too easy to use. The tender is about the size of 3 cigars rolled together and the cig lighter adapter just plugs right in... no need to ever pop the hood.
Thanks for the info! Its funny you should mention this. I saw the tab and rather than check it out I just assumed it was to release the hatch from the inside of the car or something. Now I know so thanks again even though I feel like an idiot!

The car naturally drains the battery. Some claim it does nothing to their cars; mine was so dead I had to go and use the key and door release. BG says not to let it sit for more than 2-3 wks without running it, meaning, taking it out for a drive.
If you do, they told me I need a battery tender. jdoria, I don't know which one is "Best", but I do know you can buy at almost any auto parts stores a Schumacher for around $20-$30. Mine was changed from clips to plug in lighter; to me, much easier.
And if you read up on here at CF, I've read that completely discharging your battery will shorten its lifespan dramatically over time and repetition. Considering it's not a great battery to start with, I'm expecting that within 1-3 years, I'll be replacing mine.

I highly recommend this!
How do you route the 120VAC cord to the charger? I like the lighter plug arrangment, but I can't find a way to route the 120VAC supply without leaving the window partially down.

Thanks!
I leave the window cracked... cover fits over the car (and the tender AC cord) just fine.
