I don't like the vette nets or the GM solution because you have to remove them to put the top up/down. I've often wondered why someone doesn't do something connected to the seats. The solution (for C5's) in the link above was what I was thinking, the only problem is that you lose the rearview mirror. The solution would be a clear lexan shield between the seats, but still attached to the headrests (similar to the Boxster's wind blocker). This is surely a good project for Pipedreams or DS Vettes. Boys, are you listening?

Jimmy

EDIT: I was just looking at my car, the levers on the back of the headrests to flip the seatbacks forward are not needed on a C6 since the trunk is closed off (unlike a C5). Couldn't you use those as the mounting point and have a clear panel going between the headrests?

Well my SL500 had a screen that strapped to the roll bar and flipped up or down, really an awesome and very unobtrusive system. I really wish GM came out with something like this, although there is less room to work with back there on the vettes.

Agreed. Been driving 5 convetibles, all vettes and never had a wind screen. don't want the wind, keep the top up. Actually, looking to purchase my 6th, a 68 rag top too, just to park next to my C6.

Paz, you've been asking some good astute questions.

As far as the GM windbreaker goes here's the real deal: it's a good thing. Like I said before, I've got one.

100% worth it. It's as solid as the Rock of Gibralter. It dresses your car up. It's functional for reducing wind in the cockpit so your ambience is quieter letting you talk and hear. It is something that you will use when it's appropriate. It personalizes your car. When you're being overtaken people will see your windscreen and think it slides up or down like a window. They'll think you have a cool car.

Your wife will love you. Your friends will envy you. Women will pull up beside you and slowly lick their lips and tell you to call them. You'll get a girlfriend who ought to be in Penthouse. You'll be Client #1. Your dog will stop humping your leg. Important people will want to pal around with you. Your parents will be proud.

You'll be glad you got it, guaranteed.

It's either a VetteNet or a hairnet.

I looked through the "Smilies" but I couldn't find one for "yankin' my chain". Yet another useless reply.

I too have the GM wind screen, and think it's functional and enhances the appearance.

Putting up the windows, and putting on the windscreen lets you enjoy the vert top down in less desireable weather; therefore, extendinging the top down season.

Paz, a lot of people have given you their views.

There's nothing left to say about this very simple topic. You have no intention of buying one of these or you would have already said "Thank You" and moved on.

Here's a smilie for you.

Well, Cool Nod, that's where you are wrong. I am very interested in a net, and the several members (esp. richoff, Hogvette, Tom_Slick) have posted informative pictures and opinions of the two available types. To those who have taken the time to help - thank you.

I think you'll like the Vette Net. I got one recently for my 07 vert and it's one of the few mods that my wife has really taken a liking to.
I would ignore the arrogant and obnoxious posts. it's not worth the effort to respond and all you are doing is egging them on to respond further. It is one of the reasons why I don't post on CF as much. Anyway, good luck with your decision and I wish the best for you.

I bought my 1st convertible Corvette in 99.
Wife got a cute, short haircut, she’s never looked back.
We have the top down 90% if the time.
She drives with the top down. She can get the top up and down by herself (not a big deal I know).
If your wife won’t let you put the top down, you may need a different wife…
(I do have friends that need different wives…)

Default Vette Net versus Chevy Windscreen

I have had and used both. I only use the screen when I have a female passenger in the vette. Yes both the Vette Net and the Chevy screen work well. The vette net uses a small lexan shield instead of classic windscreen in the chevy. The lexan is like looking through glass (very nice)

The vette net does a better job of virtually eliminating wind buffetting and drastically reduces noise. However, I am 6' 1" and could not get the reduced height of the vette net to not interfere with my rear view vision. I could not get it to work where it did not drive me nuts. So I sold the vette nett to a "vertically challenged" owner who loves it. He has no problem with the height of the vette net bar.

I have since installed the Chevy windscreen which is much taller than the vette net(at least 3"). The Chey has its own issues, there is no bar in the rear view mirroir but you are in fact looking through a true windscreen. thus the visual acuity is much less but not bad. The Chevy does a decent job of reducing the wind noise and buffeting (although not as good as the vette net). It does have two advantages, first it has a built in switch which precludes you from raising the top without first removing the screen (this is a nice feature) and second I like the mounting method for the Chevy much better. That said, the intitial install is a pain in the *&%*(@% for the Chevy but after it is installed is better.

If the vette net was 3 to four inches taller, I would have kept it. However, the Chevy looks better, has a neat safety feature, better install and works almost well. Last the Chevy is about $120 more.

Thanks for the detailed description. That really helps me. I am also 6'1" and your info clinches my choice. I'll check if Vette net has changed specs, but if not, it looks like the GM net is the over 6' persons choice.

Personally, I do not like the top down and the windows up on ANY vert....
