The safest thing to do is the wipe it down with wet cloth. The most effective thing to do is with the engine warm (not hot) spray it down with water, spray a little simple green on the dirty areas let is soak for a few minutes then rinse. Wipe down everything with a dry cloth and start the car and let it run for a while so everything dries up. The risk is that there is alot of electronics and they don't like water so you should not use any high pressure at all. Avoid rinsing down any electronic components and you should be ok. You will here a ton of opinions on this from never do it, to, not a problem. I have done this for all of my cars for the past 15 years and never had an issue. The engine comparment is designed to withstand some water but not water under high pressure. They guys who use pressure washers are the ones that generally have problems.
To be safe get several opinions and pick the one you are most comfortable with.
I hear some people use simple green which they let "soak" a lil bit then wash that off. Not sure what to use as a "wax" though. Some people use WD-40 which I wouldn't recommend because that only collects dirt.
I'd say definetly don't use anything high pressure and don't spray directly on electronics and clean what you can by hand that way you don't run the risk of soaking anything important.
Edit: you also might want to check the Cleaning/Detailing section they might have a FAQ

I've used pressure washers for years on all my cars (except my Vette) but I never pull the trigger, so the pressure of the water is quite low.
Having said that, most of those cars did not have near the same quantity of electronics as the C6, so I may not do this on my 07. Using a damp rag may be the way to go.
I would use a damp cloth while spraying a bit of Simple Green around then wipe it off. After that, you'll probably want to use some trim shine on the hoses and all the black pieces for that clean new look.
