Rock Chips and gouges from highway driving w/ Touchup
Hey all, I drove to tulsa and back yesterday (500 miles) and got about 10 rock chips/gouges ranging in size and depth with the deepest one down to the primer on my hood and about the size of a big bread crumb. My car is Crystal Red Metallic.
I was wondering what kind of success people have gotten from taking their cars to detailing places and having them touch it up. I already have the touchup paint, but I just need their skill to make it look good. Bought the paint from Automotive Touchup.
I know its hard to keep the vette perfect but I wouldnt mind paying $100 every 3-4 months to get it touched up if they could make it look like it never happened.
For those that have gotten it done, what are the results and how much did you pay? Thanks!
I would also like to know how much it costs to have this done. Man it is probably going to be more than 100 dollars just because its a " job " the crystal red metallic tint coat is harder to mix and blend. White Black and Victory red non metallic colors are easier to touch up speaking black being the easiest. good luck on your findings I would recommend a good body shop in your area that works on Nice cars and just get a few estimates before you do anything, anyway good Luck Man
You can probably do it yourself with the Langka method found here at http://www.langka.com/. I would also seriously think about getting a clear bra by 3M.. Looks great and will take care of those chips going forward..

That must be a rough highway to drive. I've been driving my C6 for 3 years (including regular track use) and have very few dings on the front. I would suggest not attempting to touch it up yourself.
The worst damage to my hood was caused when a fluorescent light bulb came loose and fell about 12' onto my hood. There were a few spots where it went through the paint. I bought one of those paint pens to touch it up. Although I bought the correct color (mag red) and the clear coat pen...the color didn't match. It was too dark. I guess the 4 or 5 small dark spots are better than it was but it isn't right.
If you want it done correctly (and they may have to repaint the entire section) have a professional do it.

Unless you have the entire car done-Rock chips are a way of life. I got a chip on my hood AND windshield 2 days after I got my clear bra put on.
I think of those stone chips the same way I think of the grin lines on my face and bugs in my teeth from bike rides. It's just proof I wasn't dreaming.
A well aged and cared for car looks much better than a like new garage queen. If you get hung up on keeping it perfect than the drive will not be as much fun and that's the whole point of owning a Corvette in my mind.
I'll be taking delivery of a new Crystal Red C6 in May and by November it will have a lot of chips and I'll have a lot of great memories. I'm thinking the odometer will show at least 10,000 miles in that time.
