From a lot of what I read on this forum about the Z51, I was somewhat apprehensive in ordering it on my car. I have it and think it's great...wouldn't want the base suspension. I ordered the NPP exhaust because you can change the sound "on demand" with the M2W switch and exhaust commander after market devices. The sound is perfect for when I want to hear it, or DON'T want to hear it...

Default Z51

I went from 03 w/o to 06 with Z51 and I like the package.
Mine is a serious daily driver 4,500 miles in the last 8 weeks and a total of 29,000 in a year and a half.
Got the Headers,a tune, Corsa Sports and a few other minor mods.
Average mileage is 24.2 Cruise at 79 mph is 29-30 mpg.
Admittedly my driving is along the gulf coast from LA to FL so the roads are much better but the solid handling is much better than my 03 was.

The MZ6 has lower gear ratios and closer gear ratios for track-use. 6th gear will run close to 2K rpm at 80mph whereas an MM6 will show more like 1600 rpm.

I went back and fourth with this even posting questions about ordering a base C6 and letting the Z51 go.. Well again I changed and went back to the Z51 with the optional Gm exaust. I have driven all of them and the base was a bit soft for me. My brother had the mag ride and it is awesome but not stiff enough for my taste on sport and a bit soft on tour. I figure I wanted a pure sports car and can handle the bit of harshness in the ride. When my tires wear out I will get Michellen run flats and go from there.

BTW The ride with the F55 is stiffer than the base even on the soft setting.
I agree totally. I had the F55 on my 2002 C5. Didn't care for it too much. Got the Z51 on my 2005 C6. Liked it ok at first but kinda got tired of the stiff ride over time. Another negative to the Z51 is the tires that come with it have a very, very short life. I got 32,000 miles out of the tires on my 2002 but only about 9,500 on the Z51 tires. And replacements are very pricey.

So on my 2008 C6 I went for the standard suspension and I really love it. I don't track my car either but do drive it every day as it is my main transportation. I have never regretted not getting the Z51.

I also have the optional exhaust and it is worth every penny. Haven't got the mild to wild deal yet but plan to. I definitely like the fact that it isn't loud all the time. Had Corsa's on my 2005 and they are supposed to be the most drone free aftermarket exhaust but even they wore me down after a while.

I can comment on the Z51 performance package which is worth more then what it cost. The ride is stiff but all that is forgotten and forgiven once you hit a twisty road. I would never buy a Vette without the Z51 option.

As for the NPP exhaust, I would rather spend the money on my own system which would be long tube headers to Borla Sports.

I have an 07 Z 51 car and love it. I have had a few vettes and this one handles like it is on rails. I love it. When you hit a big hole, you may lose a filling in your mouth but I can deal with it. I love twisty roads too.

I went from F55 on an '05 to Z51, NPP on an '08.
I much prefer the Z51 because rather than having to choose between the "wallowy and soft vs not quite stiff enough and still too much lean" settings I have a car that really handles like a sports car should and rides just fine. It also has sportier gearing and gets off the line a whole lot faster. My F55 didn't feel like a sports car...it felt like a GT.

Go for the Z51 and also consider the MZ6- you know you want to, that's why your asking -

Anyway, and despite the anti-Z51'ers, its' my daily driver/track car/vacation car/Saturday night car

I love my Z51 and NPP. I have noticed that most of the people who say "no" to the NPP are people with non 08's. It's just my opnion but for me NPP was the perfect option with Mild 2 Wild....Sounds like a sports car should when open but with the touch of a button no drone at highway speeds and very tame driving around the city. If I take my vette out early in the morning I can get out my neighborhood without waking the whole block unless I really want to. Loud and obnoxious on demand. Quiet when I need it to be. Well worth the 1195 IMHO.

Z51 and NPP are my two favorite options... Better sound and better handling are always good!
