My 2008 came with Z51 (bought it off th lot) I don't think I would have ordered it for the money they get but after driving the car for 5 months I would not want to go without it now. It did not come with the NPP exhaust but I had it installed with Ed's NPP in a box and I love it. Get Both.

MZ6 vs. Z-51. I returned to my dealer a week after my purchase and was just looking at a showroom full of beautifull Corvettes and noticed something. There was a Z-51 parked right next to a MZ6 lined up just right and the MZ-6 was sitting about an inch to 1 1/2 inches higher in the front. Salesman told me it was due to the variable shocks on the magnetic selective system...... any body else ever notice that? Another great reason for the Z-51 option.

Z51 and NPP exhaust are awesome options. The cars a daily driver and its refined, fast and comfortable.
I vote to get both options.
About 4K miles and even the almost 50 year old wife says this is the nicest most luxurious corvette I've owned.
When she's not in the car and I hammer it..This car rocks! Handles great...the exhaust roars...and when I'm done and I pull in the garage...its quiet enough to not wake anyone..
Almost James Bond like.
HTH and good luck deciding on the color!
I got mine from Dave over at Kerbeck. Got a hell of a deal on an 08.
Shop the forum vendors because they have the best pricing.

I need some clarification please...I just purchased a car that will be built in a couple of weeks...it has the Z51 and the optional exhaust. Am I correct in reading here that there is a button that keeps the flaps form opening at 3500 RPM? So I can choose to have them rumble at driver discretion?
If so, I'm even happier than before. I thought is was an automatic thing with no override.

I just bought both on my coupe. The Z51 is THE best bang for the buck, EVER. Oil Cooler, Transmission Cooler, Power Steering cooler, sways, shocks, brakes, tires AND better gearing in the transmission.
I was showing my 68 yr old mother the car, and we went for a drive. Coincedently, we happened to go over a rough patch of road and she mentioned how smooth the ride was. So the Z51 is FAR from harsh.
The exhaust is more a matter of taste. I hadn't heard it before I bought it, but I REALLLY love it now. It sounds SO good when it opens up, and it's nice and quiet when cruising the highway.

See, as several others have stated, you get so much more with the Z51 option than just a suspension upgrade; extra cooling, performance brakes, different tranny gearing and so on. It is worth every penny. The NPP is just an awesome sounding exhaust. I ordered it. It's on the car from the factory and under full warranty. I don't have to buy anything else (other than the M2W switch) and I didn't have to take my new car apart. Get both options!

I have an 07 Z51. Never drove a non-Z51 so I have no basis for comparison, BUT, there is nothing that I don't love about the handling, ride, stopping etc. of this car.

Would not buy a vette without the Z51 option. Steering response is sharper, less body roll, better gearing and the vette feels like a sports car. I drove both set ups and hands down Z51 is worth it!

Salesman tells me to skip the NPP, as I can get aftermarket system
for less money. Your response has convinced me to get it. Comes
on the car, under warranty, and I don't have to fool with changing
anything. Thanks!
1LT, Z51, NPP. Silver.

In my opinion, owning what you just described, I'd say both are a "yes." The handling, ride and comfort, plus the knowledge that the car with the Z51 is built for more rigorous driving gives me a very comfortable feeling.
The NPP exhaust option, which some might claim is over-designed, is a good, from-the-factory option that gives one thing others don't: the choice to run silent or run louder, at almost any point in time.
I believe you will be happy with both options. So, join up!!!

I have the Z51 on my 2005, but I'm going with the F55 for my 2009.
Don't get me wrong...I love the Z51 as a package and feel it's a great bargain for what you get. The gearing and the tighter suspension setup are all excellent. So why am I going to the F55 now?
There are really two reasons. My primary concern is the condition of my local roads. We've had a horrendous winter with tons of snow. The roads stayed heavily salted and graveled all winter, plus the frost heaves were unbearable. Now that the snow is gone, the exposed roads are an absolute disaster. Potholes will be filled, but there's nothing anyone will do about the cracks and breaks in the asphalt. The roads are rough and will be that way for years to come, especially given the state of our local economy.
The Z51 is fine over smooth and moderately rough road surfaces, but my short drives this year have been torture. My other concern has been the tires. With only 11,000 miles on my car, there is already noticeable wear on the front and rear tires. Unfortunately, this is normal. I don't want to buy a new car and have to change tires so soon.
So for these two reasons, I chose not to opt for the Z51 on my next C6. This is not a criticism of the Z51, only a recognition of the poor driving conditions I often have to endure where I live. If the majority of your roads are decent, by all means go for the Z51 and you won't be disappointed.
I do expect to install Z51 sway bars soon after I get my 2009.

I sold my 91 ZR1 that I had for 12 years to upgrade to an 08 convertible. I chose to go with both the Z51 and NPP options and have absolutely no regrets. The car drives tremendously smoother, tracks better, rattles less and sounds nicer with the optional exhaust. Absolutely no regrets in making the upgrade versus what was a legend at the time it was built. I enjoyed every last mile of autocrossing and road courses I put it through. Now if they only made the new ZR1 in a convertible and I came across an extra $30-40k to upgrade.....
