Your posting has nothing to do with 'C6 Corvette General Discussion' now does it. This post should be moved to the 'Off Topic' section
Since when is Horse Power not a part of a General Disussion when talking about the C6???? It was a general question pertaining to HP, with the intention of starting a conversation of how people generally feel about their cars and HP. In this case the C6. Obviously, if I posted it in the C6 section then we are talking about the C6. There have been SO MANY threads about how to increase HP in these cars, I thought that it might be interesting to get some peoples take on it. In answer to your question, yes, in my opinion the post DOES have everything to do with the 'C6 Corvette General Discussion'
There are many things in life that you can just never have enough of and horsepower is one of them! We Americans always like everything in excess. Nothing wrong with that!
I am guilty of that.
My Lightning was fast from the factory, I kept it stock about 2 weeks.
My Cobra was as quick as my moded Lightning, it stayed stock about a week...
The c6 has been stock for 3 weeks, that's good for some people. Shane
Hp is Hp. It all depends on how it's used. For me the thrill of starting up 436 Hp can't be beat. It's a whole lot better than starting up a 160Hp toyota.
IMO most buy vettes BECAUSE of all the horsepower not in spite of it. So when is to much to much? For most owners never! Doesn't matter if they can use it or not because it's there. Ego thing? Well yea I'd say it's most definitely an ego thing for many. Does anyone believe they're going to see a bunch of ZR1's on the track? Not likely IMO. If we're talking about the diminishing point of return regarding HP we've probably already exceeded it. I can tell you if a C6 had only 300 hp I wouldn't be driving one so GM's got the right idea. A certain segment love FAST cars and will always find ways to make them even faster than stock. High performance parts is a billion dollar industry so there is no shortage of speed freaks.
So in answer to your original question I'd say there is no magic formula for HP in HP cars. The more the merrier for most people.... It's exactly why GM made a Z06 and now a ZR1. It sells a lot of cars.............
"Too much is NEVER enough!" - Don't have a clue where it originated.
I agree with the OP. Where can you really use the stock HP on a regular basis in daily driving? That being said, I know I don't have enough because I still want more!
As to "can", the answer is darn near every day, and I only have a 7 mile commute. As to "should", that's my business. Your exact same question/argument could as easily be posed by a Prius owner to someone with an L-48. And that's why it's somewhat of a "dumb" question here on a forum where the least powerful cars have 400HP.
This forum doesn't allow much discussion of using serious horepower on public roads. I don't even disagree with that stance. I do disagree with the "take it to the track" moralists, but that's a question for another time and place. Point is, clearly there are a ton of people who find good reasons (to them) to have a lot of power. Since the main reason for having a lot of power is off-limits here, how could you hope to have a meaningful discussion? Especially when the tone of your original post implies that you think that those who use that power, shouldn't?
Horse Power!! We hear SO MANY claims. Any where from 350 to 800 RWHP and everything in between. My question is unless you race your car on a closed track, which many here do, where oh where can you go with THAT MUCH HP??? Is it just an ego thing for bragging rights? Don't get me wrong, one of the major draws for me of the Corvette is the power, but even in STOCK form you really CAN'T use that much HP on public streets, at least you shouldn't!
What do you think?

Good Health
Good Sex
Dogs
House
In-laws (oops...that's for the other list)

My stock C6 has more horsepower than I can use where I drive it. But I totally get the attraction to more is better. It is just downright fun to have a car fast enough to make your passengers crap their pants when you punch it.
It's all about the fun factor pure & simple. Why do people wait in line for an hour to take a 5 minute roller coaster ride?
Is it difficult getting the seats clean?
A Corvette is not a roller coaster unless you know of one that only goes downhill fast.
From: Greater Detroit Metro MI, when I'm not travelling.
I use all 400RWHP I have every day. To do that all I need to do is push the gas to the floor and run the engine to 5500 RPM It feels like it is "enough", but I got a ride in a Twin Screw supercharged 600RWHP Z06 that made me realize you CAN use that kind of power in the street if you are careful enough...
For me I have enough power when I feel like I have balanced out cost, reliability, fuel economy, driveability against my urge to drive something faster than everyone else's car on the road

So what are you asking?
How to detune a Corvette to reduce the horsepower?
A better place for this discussion is in the "Little old ladies driving to church" forum.
