Carmax Experience !!!!
Bought a 2007 Corvette Conv. with 9000mi. on it from Carmax. It was the worst car buying experience of my life.First off I asked for a NON-Smoking Vehicle and they assured me this car was never smoked in.To make a LONG story short on the way home I checked the ash tray there were ashes in it,the lighter had been used many times and I discovered burn marks in back of the drivers seat.I called the dealer, they offered to detail the car, I laughed at that and told them to take the car back.Any way after decieving me and being lied to 6 weeks later they took the car back.
So after that experience on 4/21/08 I ordered a NEW Convt. I guess out of all this mess a good thing came from it.

Is it true that Car max will not negotiate on price?
CARMAX does not negotiate price. From what I've seen, they price their used cars very competitively. My 06 DSOM coupe was priced at least $5,000 less than any other in town. Where they get you on is on your Trade-in. They lowball you BIG TIME on your trade. Another nice thing about CARMAX is that they will buy your vehicle, regardless of whether you buy their vehicle or not.
Glad you got the car. Odd experience tho, since I've had many dealings with CarMax, and they've always been perfect. But out of this one, you got a good new car.
Although I am glad your problem worked out for you, I am a little confused.
Did you buy this car sight unseen? You never even looked at it prior to purchase? Don't you think you'd have seen the ashtray and lighter if you'd simply looked at it? You didn't check the seats for burn marks? How on earth did the BACK of the seat get a cigarette burn? Something's not adding up here.
I'm not saying that Carmax didn't lie to you, but I don't think you were the most careful customer, either. You couldn't smell the smoke in the car when you drove it BEFORE buying it? Or, did you simply take the salesman's word for it and paid without driving it?

That's what they told me and pretty much stuck by it when I tried to bargain. Locally anyway, their prices are asinine, and only for those who are to timid to negotiate or don't know any better.

I was thinking the same thing. Either way, it ended up as a positive for the OP.
The fact that they finally agreed to take the car back makes them worth dealing with IMHO. Most other dealers would not. In their defense, someone should have checked the car top to bottom, inside out, BEFORE signing the contract though.
