it could be location too..i live in a very yuppy area with bentleys just as common as the next car. you can drive around on sundays and see every exotic car out there lol...the people that i have these debates with are the bmw M guys..the AMG people...i wouldnt give it a thought if it was coming from all the civic guys lol
Pulled up to a convenience store the other day, left it running while i went inside. When I came back out, there were 3 members of the DPS (dead peckr society) standing there looking at my car. One of 'em said "sounds like ya got some water in your gas", I just laughed and said "yea, i'll fix it later", got in and drove off smiling.
I'd find some new friends! Seriously though don't you love when people come up and rub on your car and say "nice paint" or my personal favorite is those that lean on your fenders with their elbows while looking under the hood.
Actually, in my experience, I have received a lot more "positive" remarks about my Corvettes than negative. Even from Porsche & "ricer" guys. I think "car people" that know cars and are knowledgable about cars are not the problem. It's the yuppie types in their Prius's or Bimmers that look down their noses. I say, "so what !"
I have a couple of ricers here at work that think they "know" cars, but they can't afford even a good ricer much less a good Corvette. There is one who thinks the 911 is the ultimate car-I love to get him going by telling him the 911 is a family car because it has a back seat - he'll come to back to my office three or four times thereafter telling me why the 911 is so much better then the C6
I have rarely heard a bad comment about my C6. I usually ask them, "Oh, and what do you drive?". That alone usually shuts them up. No need to be arrogant or offended - just let them bury themselves with their jealous ignorance.
Cheer up you could be currently driving a GTO like me. If you want to talk about a negative image problem try have people think your 393rwhp LS2 has a V6 and FWD, that is good fun.
i was visiting my parents a while back, vette parked on their driveway, when the doorbell rang. it was the little boy next door. maybe 10 years old. wanted to know if that was a Z06 on the driveway. i told him, no, it was a convertible. he seemed satisfied.
Why didn't you ask him if he'd like to take a spin? You'd a gave someone a memory of a lifetime and he'd be getting a C9 someday 'cause that's all he'd a dreamed about till then.
someone drives a bad chevy car > chevy makes bad cars > corvette is made by chevy > corvette is a bad car.
it might be easier if I put it this way; "GT-R? it's just a Nissan..." nail that stands out gets hammered.
had a chance to drive a brand new 08 cobalt with only 55 miles when I got it for 3~4 days while my car was in shop. I put about 400~500 miles on it and I wouldn't be surprised if someone can't acknowledge corvette's performance because it's made by chevy.
it only takes 1 poorly designed/made car to bring down the entire brand's cars with it.
"How fast does it go?" is the most common question.
I have gotten this one a few times. That was the cue for me to grin and say "get in"! Now mind you I only show them first to second and then back off but the most common response about the car is...
"Holy ****, this feels like a friggin ride @ great adventure but better"!!!!
I am gonna start charging people for rides from now on.
I too live on Long Island and I am sick of BMW + Porsche jerks. I own mine because I love it. One of my brothers has a Carrea and when I got my new Vette I went to his kids birthhday party. All the people came to look at my vette parked next to his Porsche. Everyone one liked mine better and it was great when his wife and 2 kids said he sould have got a Corvette. You know who those "people" are and who cares what they think.
Alot of my friends and family don't know jack about cars. They all know that a Corvette of any kind is fast though, it just has that reputation.
Almost everyone I meet loves my Corvette The few who didn't never said it to me personally, a friend told me about it & said it seemed like they were jealous. No matter what you drive there will be people who don't like it, I say who cares. I know it's nice and so do most people out there As long as your happy with it that's all that matters. Enjoy it
