thoughts on wheel/tire insurance
I'm curious if anyone purchased this and what the cost might be...I had it once on a BMW and I remember it ran about $400.
Given the price of replacements I thought it might be worthwhile.
Thnaks in advance.

Not for me - I've had low profile tires / large wheels on a variety of vehicles over the years and am just used to driving with the perspective of "watch out for junk in the road".

Be sure you carefully read the actual contract first. It usually only covers damage to a wheel if the tire won't hold air. So figure you hit a curb and knock out a big hunk of the wheel but the tire still holds air - guess what, no coverage. The tires are already covered.

My dealer told me at purchase that the tire/rim road hazard insurance did not cover curbing the tire and damaging rim. Figured what good is it if it doesn't protect the tires from the only things that I have had tires damaged from in the past - curbs. Passed on the insurance. Did get the extended warranty, though.

I usually don't, but, I'm running 305/25/20 at the rear, if I have a blowout, it's gonna be one of those. Road Hazard insurance was less than replacing one of the rears and it covers all 4 tires.

Well, I was dumb to buy the extended "easy" tire warranty from the Chevy dealership in March of 07 when I got my new c6. It was advertised by the finance agent that if anything happened they would be replaced.
Well, I hit a nasty pothole and slightly bent the rim on the inside edge and the tire has a slight bulge in it.
I went to the same Chevy dealership to ask how the warranty works and they said they would repair it if it did not hold air and nothing on the tire.
WTF?
Anyway, I told the service guy that I now understood why people get so upset. You tell them one thing and they trust, and then when they go to use they learn the real story.
It's sad that such a great car is sold at a place that cares only about making the sale and not so much on returns. I certainly will not go back to that dealer since I feel like the workers don't represent what you are getting properly.
350 bucks down the drain.
Time to look for a used front drivers tire and rim.

"In honor of jpee"
it is that type of short sighted policy of deceit that has gotten some dealerships in trouble---actually, some are disappearing. it's also had its effect on the manufacturers, indirectly.

I was offered the Tire / Wheel warranty from the dealership as well, I declined as my car isn't a DD and after 3 years I'll still probably have the OEM GY's on it so I said "No Thanks".
