Default Z06 issues.............

Looking at purchasing an '07 Z06.........are there any inherent problems/issues(major and minor) that the Z's have or to look for?
Thanks in advance.........

I've heard that they wear out tires rather quickly; the rear more than the front, but other than that, no more problems than any other C6.

I hope this problem has been solved, but some cars have a strong, noxious odor of resin or solvent. It was even mentioned when one of the car rags tested a Z06.

There is the issue of the needle bearings in the rocker arms...not a huge deal since the motor is 100K warranty.... read all about it here:

Nothing that a 5 year 100k mile warranty can't fix.

The resin odor was reported in a few of the 2008s.

A few '07s with January '07 -June '07 engine build dates have had the needle bearing and rocker arm issue.

All of the LS7 engines for the Z06 are hand built at the Wixom Performance Build Center. A few of the actual engine builders post in this thread and are very helpful.

You can find out when the LS7 engine in the car you are looking at was built using the code found on the driver's side head.

Darril is with me building prototype engines now and I have told him about your post.
And which engine builder at the Wixom plant built it, underneath the passenger side fuel rail cover.

8,159 2007 Z06s were built.

28 cars have been identified on this forum with the rocker arm issue.

I would suggest that you make sure that it is stock and NEVER had the PCM flashed with an aftermarket tune. Even if it has been reflashed back to stock, they can tell and void your warrantee.

The build date is on the driver's door. Mine was built December 06 and no needle bearing problems.

I thought that only some of the 08's have the odor issue.

But would only add that the inside of the driver's door will tell you the car's build date, not the engine build date.

Still glad to hear that you have no needle bearing issues.
